Quick stays can still be pawsome at the best kennels in Leeds!

Cleanliness: To ensure the highest hygiene standards, we visited facilities in person. As you’d expect, only spot-free joints that clean their kennels regularly entered the list.

Customer feedback and strict sanitation protocols were also reviewed. If the company has a reputation of being dirty or unclean, it’s not here.

Facilities: Through facility tours and client testimonials, our team selected facilities with spacious and well-ventilated kennels. Those with extra amenities like play areas and toys won extra points.

Staff Experience: Staff qualifications were strictly reviewed. Our key considerations included years in the field (at least 5) and experience in handling various breeds or conditions.

Client feedback played a role as well.

Safety Measures: We excluded names with a poor safety reputation. Moreover, all our picks have the following: well-fenced facilities, escape-proof enclosures, and fire protocols.

If they have emergency vet access or on-site vets, we gave them more points.

Price and Value: We evaluated the kennels’ pricing structures and package inclusions. Cost-efficient ones were prioritised, especially if they have additional discounts or deals, like lower prices for bunking options.

I already raved about how dog boarding facilities save my bacon when I’m off for a proper sanity break or chasing gigs across the country.

What I haven’t mentioned is what I do when I’m nipping out for a quick one—say a last-minute family do or a late-night date—and need somewhere decent for my furballs to kip. You probably guessed it, but, yep, it’s kennels all the time.

For short stays, they’re mint, sometimes even right up there with pet sitters in terms of service and cost efficiency. The hiccup, though, is that not all pass the sniff test. So we found the ones fit for your pup!

How much do kennels in Leeds charge for a stay?

Kennels in Leeds often cost £18.50 to £20.50 a day, depending on your dog’s breed. Kennels for smaller breeds are cheaper than kennels for bigger ones.

For cats, expect to pay £12 to £28, with the fees typically decided by the number of cats.

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Sat – 9:30 am to 10:30 am, 5 pm to 6 pm
  • Sun – 10 am to 10:30 am

Website

Plenty of us here only deal with old-timers, which is why Home Farm Kennels & Cattery cracked a spot. This fully licensed centre has been around since 1977.

Quality-wise, it’s tip-top as well. There are heated kennels and vet bedding (changed daily), and any breed or size can kip, cats included.

Rates are bang-on with the city’s usual fees, too. I paid £18.50 for an overnight stay last April, and that already included bedding and grub.

Cat owners pay less, with fees for both breeding and food starting at £12.

The 75 acres of countryside are also quite refreshing, even for fur parents. Of course, the pups seem to love it more, especially the paddock where off-leash play is allowed.

I’m not fond of the slow response, though. Sometimes it takes them days or weeks to return calls or emails.

It would also be brill if they add a convenient online booking system.

Pros

  • Established in 1977
  • Serene countryside location
  • Outdoor play area
  • Accepts cats
  • Just 24 mins from the Leeds CBD
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Slow response
  • No online booking system

Buddy Was Well Taken Care Of

‘Second time using home farm. Buddy was well taken care of and we were updated with pictures and how he was doing. Wouldnt use anywhere else to board our dog. Thank you for looking after him.’

– Jackie Mcglinchey, Google Review

Spot On

‘Our dog has had a difficult experience at a different kennels and on arrival became very nervous. Staff have clearly spent time establishing a bond with him as on collection he was his normal bouncy self and was in no rush to leave having been cleaned as well! Communication throughout the booking process was spot on as well. Thank you to the whole team.’

Variety goes a long way, and that’s what makes the family-run Woodhaven Boarding Kennels a good pick.

Here, gas-heated kennels for almost every size and breed are available, some with additional heated lamps.

Space isn’t a problem either. Roomier facilities are provided, including family-sized enclosures, convenient if you’re dropping two or more doggos.

Old or nervous pets also get to stay in a separate, quieter section.

In terms of prices, they sit right with Leeds’ standard. You pay £18.50 per night for one dog, and if you’re bunking four, it’s just £46.50.

Downsides? Well, you’re looking at a 40–50-minute jaunt from the city centre.

Also, apologies to cat parents—Woodhaven stopped boarding felines in March 2024.

But they do have several perks for pooches, like Bark Park. It’s a gated event where dogs socialise while playing on a paddock.

Grooming is also available on-site if you’re willing to pay extra.

Pros

  • Has family-sized kennels
  • Cheap
  • Has an event for socialising
  • Has a quieter section for shy or old dogs
  • On-site grooming services

Cons

  • 40–50 minutes from Leeds city centre
  • No longer accepts cats

Super Friendly

‘Left my young dachshund with them while I was on holiday. I was very worried in the beginning, but they sent me photos of him having fun every couple days and he had a blast. When I went to collect him it seemed like he didn’t want to leave! Will definitely use their services again as the ladies helping are super friendly and I knew they took care of him well. Highly recommend!’

Had a Great Time

‘Visited the new Bark Park today with my adult nervous dog. 5 dogs are allowed at one time to socialise and play. There were only 2 dogs in our session but we had a great time 🐾🐾’

3. Laburnum Kennels

Address: Low Common, Methley

Contact Details: 01977 512864

Operating Hours: Daily – 9 am to 5:30 pm

Website

Thirty years in, and Laburnum Kennels is still running nicely. Some of our ‘most meticulous’ fur parents even send their pets here, which says a lot.

The facility’s Pet Plan is one reason they often cite. Dogs that stay are insured.

Laburnum’s staff are trained for medical needs, too. What’s more, there’s vet access in the case of proper emergencies.

Just budget smartly. A small-to-medium dog will set you back about £27.50 to 28.50 a night, while bigger ones range between £29 and £31.

You get quality for those premium fees, though. For instance, the fully-heated kennels are 12’6″ x 6′ dimension-wise, giving your babies enough space to stretch.

You can also book a trial day if you’re planning a long stay and want to see if your pooch vibes with the facility and staff.

That said, you’ll likely travel for about 40 minutes from the city centre to get here.

Pros

  • Operating for over 30 years
  • Vet access
  • Fully insured
  • Staff are medically trained
  • Offers a trial day
  • Feeds pets with quality brands only, like Pedigree Chum

Cons

  • Pricey
  • 40 minutes from Leeds CBD

Nothing is Too Much Trouble

‘Absolutely brilliant kennels. I have left my dog here three times now and have been really pleased each time. My dog can be a little difficult sometimes, but the staff here have always put my mind at ease and assured me that it’s no problem. They put picture updates on their Facebook group regularly, which also really helps. I would wholeheartedly recommend Laburnum to anyone who is nervous about leaving their dog/cat as nothing is too much trouble 😊’

– Heather Lloyd, Google Review

10/10

‘Excellent 10/10, amazing staff, great facilities. Will be using all the time from now on, 100% trust leaving my Brooklyn, she loved it, didn’t miss me at all. Thank you Laburnum, see you again soon.’

4. Carlton Boarding Kennels

Contact Details: 0113 250 5113

Operating Hours: Daily – 8 am to 10 am, 3 pm to 5 pm

Website

If you’re after experience, Carlton Boarding Kennels is a solid bet, knowing they’ve been boarding pets of all sizes since 1979.

Better yet, they have features not found in others, like day boarding—massive if you’re working odd hours or running errands.

They’re also the sole choice here with dry salt therapy. That’s handy if your pet suffers from breathing issues or itchy skin.

As for the kennels, they’re all heated and roomy, with each dog getting an individual sleeping spot. The bonus is that they get two daily walks included in the rate.

Speaking of the rate, it’s £19 for one dog, £30 for two, £39 for three, and just £45 for four. I’m no math whiz, but that’s a bargain.

Not everything is rosy, though. A few clients have criticised Carlton’s staff for being rude or unenthusiastic.

Reserving a slot can also be a struggle, as they’re often at full capacity.

Pros

  • Open since 1979
  • Bargain prices
  • Offers day boarding
  • Offers dry skin therapy

Cons

  • Some rude staff
  • Can get fully booked

Understanding and Sympathetic

‘Excellent kennels. They have looked after my two dogs over a number of years and we have never had any issues. On collection the dogs have always looked happy and well cared for and the owner has always complemented them on their good behaviour… which is nice as they are both Staffy crosses and don’t always get approval from those that don’t know them. I had them booked in for this summer but unfortunately my eldest has recently been diagnosed with cancer so could not have his vaccination boosters. I had to cancel my booking and the lady I spoke to couldn’t have been more understanding and sympathetic. I can’t recommend Carlton highly enough. Great people with a love for the pets we entrust with their care.’

– Jim Seton, Google Review

Competitive Prices

‘My dogs always love their stays at Carlton. Very well run and handy being right next to Leeds/Bradford Airport. Competitive prices. A one stop shop for hounds due to the presence of an on-site grooming parlour, physio suite and pet food shop.’

5. Crystal Spring

Contact Details: 0113 285 2460

Operating Hours: Daily – 9:30 am to 10:30 pm, 4 pm to 6 pm

Website

Since we’ve been making it a point to go for experienced facilities, it’s only right that Crystal Spring gets a shout. The facility has been running since 1969, after all.

The staff are worth commending too. Joanne and Charlotte, to name a couple, were said to be warm to both fur parents and pups.

Even my workmate’s suspicious rescue got along with them easily. Clients say the same thing, with most jokingly complaining that their pooches didn’t want to leave after a stay.

Prices are also what you’d normally see in Leeds, and discounts are granted to those who go for bunking options.

The letdown is that there are only a few toys, which is bad if your pet is the zoomies type.

Plus, staff availability needs some work. There were times we turned up during their listed hours and found no one at the reception.

Ringing ahead solves that concern, but it shouldn’t be an issue in the first place.

Pros

  • Open since 1969
  • Warm staff
  • Offers long and short stays
  • Offers discounts

Cons

  • Few toys
  • Sometimes there’s no one at the reception

Very Reassuring

‘My two dogs came home very happy from a few days staying at Crystal Springs. Charlotte and Joanne were brilliant and very reassuring when I left them there for the the first time. They were lovely with my boys so I would highly recommend them 😀’

– Paula Edelsten, Google Review

Put My Mind at Ease

‘Absolutely excellent service. As a new dog owner, the ladies really put my mind at ease. My BC now stays over regularly and he is always well looked after. He’s a bit of a fussy eater and they go out of their way to make sure he’s eating properly. He loves going there and would definitely recommend.’
