I’ve been doomscrolling again, and my feed is full of dance trends lately. Everyone is doing spins, jumps, and moves that look pretty fun.
I thought I’d give it a go, so I joined a dance studio to learn a few steps and get moving again. After a couple of classes, I’m loving it! It’s fun, easygoing, and a great way to meet people.
So I’m sharing the best dance studios in Leeds for anyone who wants to learn, move, and have a laugh. And if you want more ways to stay active, check out my list of the best swimming lessons in Leeds, too.
How much does it cost to join a dance studio in Leeds?
Dance studio classes in Leeds usually cost around £11.50 per session, with discounts for block bookings or memberships. Private lessons and studio hire rates are higher, starting around £40 per hour.
1. The Dance Studio Leeds

Address: First Floor, Mabgate mills, Mill 6, Macaulay St
Phone number: +44 113 242 1550
Business hours:
9:00 AM – 10:00 PM (MON-FRI)
9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (SAT and SUN)
The Dance Studio Leeds is one of those places that really nails it when it comes to variety. It’s based in Mabgate Mills and offers a mix of dance classes for all levels, such as ballet, hip-hop, salsa, and burlesque.
One of the best parts about them is their class pass system, which makes it easy for regulars to keep attending sessions without the hassle of paying each time. They also run team-building workshops that are surprisingly fun for work groups.
Their studio hire side is flexible too, with discounts for charities and regular bookings. What caught my eye is that they even have professional dancers for hire, which adds a nice touch for events.
The only downsides are the 2.5% booking fee on paid sessions and limited payment options, but overall, it’s a solid spot for anyone in Leeds who wants to dance.
I’m so glad I found these classes!
“I love the beginners class even though I’ve been coming for quite a while. It’s great fun and Jess breaks the steps down and teaches at a good pace. I like that I can build on the level 1 steps to improve my foundation of steps. There’s people of all different ages and abilities attending and everyone’s always welcoming. I also attend the musical theatre class which is great fun. It helps me build on what I learn in the beginners class as it’s a step up to intermediate and challenges me to push myself. I’m so glad I found these classes!”

I’m always looking forward to the next class!
“I absolutely love the dance for beginners classes, after not dancing since school I was a bit nervous attending at first but Jess makes everyone feel welcome and creates a fun atmosphere! The different themes of every work cover many different styles so there’s always something new to learn. I’m always looking forward to the next class!”

2. RISE Dance Ltd

Classes offered: Ballroom, Latin, salsa, bachata, mambo, and more
Address: Unit 13C, Springfield Commercial Centre Bagley Lane, Farsley
Phone number: +44 780 448 3157
Business hours:
12:00 PM – 10:00 PM (MON-THURS)
9:00 AM – 7:00 PM (SAT)
RISE Dance is a decent spot for folks who want proper dance lessons without feeling out of place.
It’s tucked out on the western edge of the city, so it can be a trek if you’re based more centrally, but once you’re there, I think you’ll find the range of classes to be impressive.
Adults can get into ballroom, Latin, salsa, bachata, and more, while solo options like line dancing and street sessions keep things varied. Kids and teens have their own classes too, such as the Little Steps program.
They also offer private lessons, bespoke wedding routines, and Groove Mode fitness sessions for those who want to use dancing as a workout. They even have a huge ballroom-themed dance studio that you can hire.
The only snag is that classes fill up fast, so booking early is key.
It’s so much fun
“I’m so glad my boyfriend and I started dancing with Rise. It’s so much fun and a great activity we can do together. Nicki is such a patient and enthusiastic teacher and we’ve really come on leaps and bounds since starting out 18 months ago. I would definitely recommend!”

3. Armley Dance Studios

Classes offered: Ballet, tap, modern jazz, theatrecraft, gym, and more
Address: Unit 12, Carlton Trading Estate, Pickering St, Armley
Phone number: +44 113 289 1179
If you’re looking for affordable dance lessons, Armley Dance Studios might be worth a look. It’s not flashy, but it’s welcoming and affordable, with classes starting at just £3.00.
They cover a range of styles, though theatrecraft stands out because it teaches kids how to carry themselves on stage as well as the actual dance steps.
What I like is that they follow the International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) syllabus, so students aren’t just learning routines, but they’re also working toward proper examination awards.
There’s even a small shop on-site, which is handy if you need dancewear without heading elsewhere.
However, it’s disappointing that they don’t have a proper online booking system. Most things are still sorted by phone, and they don’t list official business hours, which can be inconvenient.
Good school with many types of dance

Brilliant dance school

4. Total Studios

Classes offered: TikTok, cheerdance, street dance, ballet, musical theatre, and more
Address: Alex House, S Parade, Morley
Phone number: +44 7772 382873
Business hours:
8:30 AM – 7:00 PM (TUES-FRI)
8:30 AM – 5:00 PM (SAT)
Total Studios is where I’m currently taking my dance lessons. It’s on the southwestern edge of Leeds, so I do have to commute a bit, but it’s worth it for how much fun I’m having here.
I’m especially into their TikTok classes since keeping up with the latest dance trends was one of my main reasons for signing up. Our coach, Demi, is easy to follow and always keen to help us nail the moves quickly.
They also run other classes for different students, including ballet, street dance, and musical theatre.
Outside of lessons, they offer dance packages for birthday parties. You can choose between a standard one or a UV Dance package that’s all about glow-in-the-dark fun.
If I had to pick one major downside, it’s that some classes, like TikTok and cheerdance, require monthly subscriptions, which isn’t ideal for casual drop-ins.
The dance teachers are brilliant
“My daughter started 4 classes at total dance around a year ago and sometimes does the morning sessions at her school too. She absolutely loves it. Her confidence in herself has grown so much too since starting. She has done 2 shows this year which has amazed me. They were fantastic and then she won an award at the presentation evening which completely took her by surprise and could not be prouder of her! The dance teachers are brilliant, so lovely and approachable, such a fun and friendly environment I couldn’t recommend it enough!!”

I honestly don’t think there is anywhere better!
“My daughter has been going to Total Dance for just over a year and she does 3 classes a week. She loves every minute of it, the coaches are amazing and go above and beyond to make it special for the kids. She has also done holiday clubs, movie nights, craft sessions and we held her birthday party at the studio too. The children get the opportunity to perform in two shows a year, which is a great experience for them and lovely for the parents and families to watch. At the end of last year they held a Xmas party and presentation night and my daughter was so proud to come away with a couple of trophies. It’s all just brilliant, so if you are looking for a dance class for your little one I honestly don’t think there is anywhere better!”

Website
Yorkshire Dance has been around since 1982, making it one of the oldest dance studios in Leeds.
What stood out to me is their “braver space” policy, where every instructor is trained in inclusive dance practice and has completed Dementia Friends, Trans Awareness, and Anti-Racism training.
The classes are impressively varied. You’ll find Dance On sessions for seniors, Indian Bollywood dance, and even Bulgarian dance rhythm classes. Prices start at around £3, and some classes offer a free first taster in case you’re just testing the waters.
If you need studio space, their Standby Space Scheme gives discounted rates when available. If you’re lucky, you can get one for as low as £6 an hour.
The only snag is the booking system. Some classes have proper online setups, others need a phone or email, and popular ones fill up fast.
