Clear the clutter with the best storage spaces in Leeds!
Moving flats made me realise just how much clutter I’ve piled up over the years. Every cupboard had something I’d forgotten about, and the idea of dragging it all into my new place felt like a nightmare.
I didn’t want to throw everything away straight away, but I also didn’t want the same mess following me. That’s why I decided to rent a storage space—somewhere safe to keep my stuff while I sort out what stays and what goes.
It’s been a game-changer, so here are the best storage spaces in Leeds. And if you need a hand with the heavy lifting, we’ve got a list of the best movers in Leeds, too.
How much does it cost to rent a storage space in Leeds?
Storage costs in Leeds depend on the size of the unit and the facility you choose. On average, small units come in around £82 per month, medium units are about £143, and large spaces cost £208.
1. Big Yellow Self Storage

Spaces offered: Personal storage, business storage, storage for students, and external lockups
Address: 1 Gelderd Pl, Gelderd Rd, Holbeck
Phone number: +44 113 245 8077
Business hours:
8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (MON-FRI)
9:00 AM – 5:30 PM (SAT)
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (SUN)
Big Yellow Self Storage is hard to miss on Gelderd Road. I’ve found them to be a good choice if you need extra space, since their units range from tiny 5-square-foot closets to massive rooms that go up to a thousand square feet!
And if you’re dealing with heavier loads, they’ve got forklift help on site, which makes things less stressful.
But what really stands out are their deals. New customers get half price for the first 8 weeks, and they’ll match a competitor’s price if you find one that’s cheaper.
Key workers get special discounts too, and if you’re planning to store long-term, paying upfront saves you money.
That said, they don’t offer true 24-hour access, and you can’t pay with cash or cheques. Card or online payments only, so plan ahead.
The storage unit is perfect for what I needed
“Very friendly staff. Spoke with Simon to arrange a quote and then Alicia to arrange the storage unit. Both were very friendly and knowledgeable. The storage unit is perfect for what I needed and the access out of hours is good and very secure”

Ready Steady Store (App Store)
Ready Steady Store (Play Store)
Since I’m still not sure which items will go with me to my new flat, I decided to store most of them in a unit at Ready Steady Store for now.
There are some reasons why I went with them. They’ve got three sites around Leeds, so finding one nearby was easy. The discount for van hire also helped since it made moving things from my old flat less of a hassle.
Their 50% off for the first 12 weeks was another bonus I appreciated.
The units come in plenty of sizes, and you can switch if you realise you picked the wrong one. Security felt solid with CCTV and alarmed units.
I liked using their mobile app to open my unit without waiting on staff, and the option for 24-hour access is reassuring.
The only downsides are the 4-week minimum charge and no discount for long-term storage.
Great service from the get-go
“Great service from the get-go. First unit was ideal, then I needed to downsize, hassle free. Nick was great, friendly and polite throughout, nothing was too much trouble. I’ve tried others but the experience here is far better.”
– Nick Stevens, Google Reviews
This one’s definitely the best
“I have used two other storage units in Leeds but this one’s definitely the best. It’s half the price of competitors and you get 24 hour access. Would use them again over anyone else.”

3. Store First Self Storage

Spaces offered: Business storage, personal storage, and student storage
Address: 2 Stourton Haigh
Phone number: +44 113 819 9819
Business hours:
8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (MON, TUES, WED, FRI, and SAT)
8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (THURS)
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (SUN)
If you’re after storage and like a place that throws in extras, Store First is worth considering. It sits near Stourton on the southeast edge, which is handy if you’re coming off the motorway but less convenient if you live closer to the centre.
They’ve got a decent mix of unit sizes for both personal and business use. What caught my eye is that you don’t need to pay a rent deposit, so moving in feels easier.
They also give you a free padlock, offer forklift services for heavier loads, and let you access your space 24/7 without extra charges.
The van pick-up is a nice touch, though it only applies if you’re renting 50 square feet or more. That limitation and the location are the main downsides.
Still, with the 12-week half-price deal, it feels like good value overall.
Our experience with them has been great
“We have been customers of Store First Leeds for over two years now, and our experience with them has been great. From the outset Mike, Emily and Scott have been incredibly helpful—from accommodating our last-minute unit hire with ease to helping us move our pallet deliveries with the forklift. They are friendly and approachable and address any issues quickly and effectively. The facilities and communal areas are always spotless and well maintained, making Store First Leeds an excellent choice and base for our business needs.”

4. UK Storage

Spaces offered: Personal storage, business storage, and student storage
Address: Unit A, Latchmore Park, Latchmore Rd, Holbeck
Phone number: +44 113 848 0800
Business hours:
8:30 AM – 6:00 PM (MON-FRI)
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (SAT and SUN)
UK Storage is one of those places that feels straightforward and secure. Their place is in Holbeck, and it’s been running since 2004 as part of a bigger chain across England.
Like most of the facilities I’ve mentioned earlier, their units are suitable for business and personal use. They don’t charge a deposit, and you’re free to switch your unit anytime as your needs change.
Security is clearly a priority. They have CCTV and fencing, but you can’t bring your own lock. Instead, they issue a barrel lock, which is solid but takes away that bit of personal control.
If you need round-the-clock access, you can arrange it, though it may cost extra.
On the money side, they offer discounts for Blue Light cardholders and military personnel. Payments are smoother with direct debit or bank transfer; otherwise, there’s an £8 fee.
Great secure facility and excellent customer service
“Great secure facility and excellent customer service. When I started to move my goods into the unit and suddenly realised I needed more space. After 1 quick phone call to customer support they found me a larger unit with no problem at all. The large lifts and numerous flatbed trollies made it very easy to move my goods in and out of the facility. The 24hr access made things very easy to come and go at a time that suited me.”
– Jamie Avison, Google Reviews
Extremely secure site
“Very helpful staff to assist when booking. Extremely secure site with a personal code to get through the electric gate then into the building itself. Large lift with ample trolleys to move items. Will be looking to use them again at the end of the next university year.”

5. The Store Room Self Storage

Spaces offered: Personal storage, business storage, student storage, Storage By The Box, and single-item storage
Address: Millshaw, Beeston
Phone number: +44 113 272 1607
Business hours:
8:00 AM – 6:00 PM (MON, TUES, WED, and FRI)
8:00 AM – 7:00 PM (THURS)
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (SAT)
10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (SUN)
Not everyone needs loads of storage, so I’m glad The Store Room in Leeds has options that suit different situations. They’ve got a wide range of unit sizes, including 25-square-foot, 50-square-foot, and 200-square-foot rooms.
If you want to go smaller than those, their Storage By The Box is a neat idea. You can store individual boxes for about £0.75 per week, which works well if you only have a couple of things.
They also do single-item storage, which is good for bigger bits like furniture or appliances, starting at £1.25 per week.
I like that they throw in extras, such as free use of trolleys and a delivery acceptance service for businesses. Seasonal deals, like half price for the first 12 weeks, help too.
However, it should be noted that they require a deposit equal to four weeks’ rent.
“We had a great experience using The Store Room to store some items after moving house, along with general seasonal decorations there’s sometimes not enough room for! The staff are lovely and there is a great range of space available. We wouldn’t hesitate to use The Store Room again, thank you team!”
