Build your style closet with the best custom-made tailors in Leeds!
One of my New Year’s resolutions was to slowly wean myself off of fast fashion and start filling my closet with custom-tailored clothes.
Thank goodness then that I’ve found a good number of tailors in Leeds. They’ve done a few custom-made items for me—from simple shirts and trousers to a full-on three-piece suit that costs thousands! I can’t wait to book more projects with them.
Here are some of the best in case you have the same goals as me or if you just want to splurge on a brand new fancy suit.
How much does a custom-made tailor cost in Leeds?
The cost of hiring a custom-made tailor varies greatly depending on the type of clothing you want and the materials used.
• Jackets, waistcoats, and trousers usually cost around £170 and £500.
• Two-piece or three-piece suits are priced between £1,000 and £2,000.
• As for shirts, the ballpark is between £89 and £200.
It’s possible to get lower prices if the tailor uses their in-house fabrics. But if you choose high-quality fabric brands like Loro Piana and Scabal, expect your bill to be higher.
1. Michelsberg Tailoring

Address: 24A Queen Victoria Street, Victoria Quarter
Contact Number: +441132420840
Do you want to look like a dapper gentleman on his way to a fine-dining restaurant or an exclusive club? Then, head to Michelsberg Tailoring. This shop offers some of the best-looking suits in Leeds!
What I like about this shop is the personalised experience. First, we have the initial consultation. This lasts for about two hours, and we even talk over glasses of whiskey. It’s almost like chatting with a friend.
It also helps that James, the main tailor, is absolutely friendly. His vibe makes every interaction relaxed and enjoyable.
For the suits, you can choose to have a more formal English garment, which has imposing roped shoulders and a heavier canvas in the chest, or a Neapolitan-style suit, which is softer and more relaxed.
The fabrics here are of the best quality. They have Italian and Egyptian cotton fabrics, which are soft to the touch, as well as linen and chambray. All of them come in different colours, too!
That said, this shop only specialises in making suits and bespoke shirts. Additionally, they operate on an appointment-only basis. So, you’ll have to wait some time before you get a schedule for a consultation with them.
Stunning quality, amazingly comfortable
“What can I say! I can’t recommend James enough. The whole experience from 1st chats to final fitting were amazing. Fabulously formal without a hint of “stuffy” – the perfect balance to make everything feel special without being daunting. My suit is everything you’d expect, stunning quality, perfect fit and amazingly comfortable.”

Fantastic experience from start to finish
“My husband visited James having read such fabulous reviews from clients. He had never had a suit made before so was a little apprehensive about the process, he needn’t have worried the whole experience was fantastic!! James was friendly and welcoming, he listened and advised us about all the options and I can honestly say the end result was superb!! My husband had a three -piece tweed suit made for our daughter’s wedding next February and he can’t wait to wear it!!. We would definitely recommend James to anyone wanting a suit tailored to their personal requirements. From start to finish it has been an amazing experience, so now all we need to do is wait for February! Thank you James for everything.”

2. Edit Suits Co.

Address: First Floor, 21 York Pl
Operating Hours:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday—10 am to 2 pm, 3 pm to 7 pm
- Saturday—9 am to 6 pm
Contact Number: +441134571555
I first got curious about Edit Suits Co. because it’s been mentioned several times in renowned publications like Esquire and GQ. Then, my loved ones in London, Birmingham, and Manchester chimed in with all the praise!
The first great thing about this shop is their versatility. They can make practically anything—from tailored shirts and chinos to full-on suits and luxurious tuxedos!
Another great thing is the streamlined process. First, you start with a one-on-one appointment with one of the stylists, followed by a thorough measuring session.
After that, you’ll only have to wait around three to five weeks for your garment to be ready. If you want any tweaks, you can do so in-store.
Their fabric lineup is impressive. They only use fabrics from some of the finest mills in the world, so expect to find luxurious brands like Dormeuil, Holland and Sherry, Scabal, and Reda.
Since they use fabrics from premier brands, the pricing here can be really high. I’ve seen suits costing beyond £1,599 or even shirts beyond £300; it’s insane!
Fortunately, they do offer some special promos from time to time (e.g., the Tuxedo Package, which gives you a two-piece tuxedo for under £1,000).
Empathetic and knowledgeable tailors
“I was recommended to come here by a local off-the-peg suit shop in Leeds. The service offered by Wayne was great, he listened, was empathetic and knowledgable! I ordered a made-to-measure wedding suit with incredible customisation. Extremely quick service and convenient booking system. Also worth noting I apprehensive about the budget but Wayne ensured I stayed within budget and did not push anything. Since then I have ordered a tailored shirt for the big day too!”

3. Mr. Tailor

Address: 49 Monk Bridge Rd, Meanwood
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday—10 am to 6 pm
- Saturday—10 am to 4 pm
Contact Number: +447984574000
Most tailor shops only accommodate men, so imagine my surprise when I learned that Mr. Tailor caters to ladies as well.
Unfortunately, this shop only specialises in alterations, so if you want a new suit or tuxedo, I recommend going somewhere else.
If alteration is what you’re looking for, though, you’ll be glad they’re flexible, whether you want to shorten or lengthen something or do something more complicated. Plus, they’ve worked on all sorts of garments, from shirts to trousers and jeans to wedding gowns!
Another thing that makes this shop amazing is their affordable pricing. Their alteration rates usually start at £12, which is quite the steal. There’s even a student discount available as well, which is even better news!
Their service is amazing. The tailor himself is friendly, always greeting clients with a smile, and he’s efficient. One client even shared that he came here for some last-minute alterations before a wedding, and they absolutely delivered!
Great service and staff
“Great service and staff! Needed some suit trousers modified ahead of a wedding this weekend. Went into the shop on Monday and when I put them on they knew immediately what was required, and turned them around for Thursday afternoon. They also wanted me to try them on when I collected them to ensure I was happy which was great. Easy 5 stars, will return if I need anything else altering.”

Quick and amazing service
“Great tailors, I’ve used these guys to lengthen all my suits and waist coats and always been spot on. Popped in the other day for a stitch in a jeans pocket and quickly did it there and then. Would recommend to anyone.”

4. Thimbles

Address: 116 Dewsbury Rd
Operating Hours:
- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday—7 am to 3:30 pm
- Tuesday and Thursday—7 am to 6:30 pm
- Saturday—9 am to 12 pm
Contact Number: +447977218068
Thimbles is another tailor shop I love because they cater to both men and women. So, come here when you want a new suit, dress, or other garment!
To make things better, this shop can also offer alterations for men’s, ladies’, and children’s clothing. They can even repair household fabrics like curtains and cushions! Their versatility impresses me.
Another thing that I find impressive is their craftsmanship. The stitches are even and defined, and the garment construction is sound and durable. Not to mention, the clothing fits me like a glove! Other clients have shared the same sentiment.
Their service is fast, too. One time, I came here to alter my jeans that had a slight bootcut finish, and I wanted them to be a straight leg instead. In just 24 hours, the tailor called me to let me know that my jeans were done. I was pleasantly surprised!
If I have to nitpick one thing about this shop, though, it’s the fact that it can be hard to find. It has a simple and nondescript facade, making it easy to overlook. But this isn’t too much of a deal-breaker for me.
Incredible craftsmanship
“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to her professionalism and incredible craftsmanship! Every stitch, every detail is flawless. Thanks to you, my clothes not only fit perfectly but also gained a unique style. It’s such a pleasure to work with such a talented and attentive master. I will definitely return again!”

Approachable and enthusiastic tailor
“I have experience with Alma, from when she learned her trade in the 1990s, working with Alan Stevens – One of the best tailors in the North East of England, at GS Tailoring in Newcastle. Alan has long since retired, but nearly thirty years later, I still visit Alma for my tailoring needs. The extra distance being well worth it. Alma is a very approachable lady, enthusiastic about her work, has valuable skills built up by decades of experience and is very reasonably priced. I couldn’t recommend her any higher!”

5. Jacob Brian Tailors Leeds

Address: 10-12 New Market St
Contact Number: +447956100918
Jacob Brian Tailors Leeds is located right in the heart of the city, near several bus stops, so travelling to and from this shop shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.
Their inventory of fabrics has my jaw on the floor. They literally have a cloth room with over 2,000 different styles and colours of fabric! You can check this out during your initial consultation, and if you’re like me, you’ll probably be overwhelmed with your choices.
They have a style guide available to give you some ideas, and you can always ask for the tailor’s suggestions if you’re still unsure.
Once you’ve chosen your fabric and they’ve taken your measurements, all you have left to do is wait. Usually, it takes about four weeks to get your suit done, but if you have any special requests, it can take up to six.
The pricing can be expensive, though, so keep that in mind. Fortunately, they do offer suits for hire—perfect if you’re looking for a more cost-effective alternative. The rental rates usually fall between £90 and £215, which isn’t too bad.
They’re also appointment-based only. This is unfortunate, especially if you need a new suit ASAP.
Extremely knowledgeable, large selection of materials
“Max has helped me design my dream suit for my wedding. Perfectly tailored to my physique and met all of my needs with it. He is extremely knowledgeable and guided me through the whole process, as I only knew the basics about suits before going in. He’s got a large selection of high-quality materials to choose from. He’s gone above and beyond to make sure that I’m dripping with steeze on my wedding day. Can’t recommend him enough!”
– William Reginald Benedictson, Google Review
Top-quality service
“Top quality service from start to finish by Max. Couldn’t have been more accommodating of my design ideas, and got the fit absolutely spot on. My first tailored suit, and because of Max, I won’t be going back to suits off the rack! Jacob Brian Leeds only from now on!”
