welding-leeds

The best welding specialists in Leeds fuse quality and affordability!

Experience: We stuck to welding specialists with at least 5 years of experience and portfolios across various project types, such as custom metalwork or structural steel. Company histories, feedback, and past projects were used for validation.

Reliability: Through feedback, direct experience, and interviews, we gauged how often a candidate hits given deadlines. Showing up or finishing early significantly swayed the grades.

Communication Skills: Clarity, response speed, friendliness, aftercare, and transparency in timelines/materials were scored using interviews and our own experience (mostly through visits and calls).

Certifications: Welders with appropriate qualifications, such as BS EN, ISO standards or CSCS cards, were favoured.

Licensing databases and certificate checks were used to confirm that, and having more (awards included) meant getting better marks.

Pricing: Overall workmanship and quotes were compared. The team also verified if the pick is close to or within Leeds’ typical rates for both traditional and mobile services.

Ever had a mate who claimed it’s cheaper to DIY a welding project despite having zip for training? Yeah, the next time he brings it up, tell the guy to stop yapping.

The kit alone will set you back £380 or more, and novices are likely to commit costly blunders like warping. Heck, if you’re a dud luck-wise, a bad job could result in inhaling toxic fumes or burning the house down!

Thank goodness there are experts in Leeds who can do it for you! We found the pros who won’t leave you with messy joints.

How much do welding services cost in Leeds?

In Leeds, most traditional welding services cost £25 to £50 for an hour of work.
Mobile welding services, meanwhile, sit between £200 and £300 for 2 to 3 hours of work, with an extra £50 for every hour that exceeds the said timeframe.
The final price is often determined by the work site’s location, material supply/cost, and the welding method.

We didn’t have to budge an inch by hiring Leeds Engineering. Mobile welding is their main gig, and the solutions cover domestic settings, as well as commercial and industrial sites.

The firm also showed us the right paperwork. Coded certifications such as AWS D1.1 and BS2971 indicated their structurally compliant approach, while CSCS and CCNSG safety cards proved they do it safely.

You’re looking at a smaller operation, though. Given that bit and the lack of Saturday hours, scheduling hitches aren’t out of the picture.

We still reckon they’re a top bet. The company portfolio is quality, and they rock up to the site equipped with the main welding styles, like stick, MIG, and TIG.

Why is that crucial, you ask? It’s a flexibility indicator suggesting they have the proper kit and know-how to handle all sorts of metal and jobs, including heavy machinery repairs and architectural metalwork.

Pros

  • Offers mobile services
  • Operating for nearly 20 years
  • Knows multiple welding styles
  • Holds numerous certifications and safety cards

Cons

  • Smaller team
  • No Saturday hours

Reliable

Great service! Really pleased with the results. Will definitely be back. Would recommend for a reliable, high quality service at a decent price.

Bespoke architectural metalwork has been Garnett Fabricators’ speciality since its conception in 1987. In other words, you ring them for welding jobs that involve staircases, balustrades, and gates.

That doesn’t mean their skillset is limited. With a CE certification up to Execution Class 2, this one (like these steel fabricators) is legally qualified to fabricate general steel structures.

Even one-off metalwork requests are fair game for the firm. A few blokes I know booked them for commissioned pieces.

All detailing is done in-house as well, with CAD assistance to boot. Thus, comms are sped up, and continuity between design, manufacturing, and installation is more streamlined.

Just know that Garnett doesn’t do Saturdays.

Timelines can stretch a bit, too. Unlike megafirms, they don’t churn out copies of copies of copies.

On the bright side, what you order is what turns up. It’s even better sometimes, thanks to their powder coating and galvanising methods.

Pros

  • Operating since 1987
  • Specialises in bespoke metalwork
  • In-house CAD team
  • Use of durable finishes

Cons

  • No Saturday hours
  • Longer lead times

Fitted Exactly As I Had Envisaged

So I rode my push bike around the world and wanted to put something in my garden to remember this by. So I commissioned Garnett Fabrications to design, manufacture, paint and install this gate. They came up trumps in about 2 weeks and had it fitted exactly as I had envisaged.

The wheels spin and everything!

Great job, thank you.

Being flexible is no trouble for iSteel Fabrications. This bunch is clued up on various methods, like MIG, TIG, and spot.

Support is from start to finish as well. Under one roof, you can acquire CAD, welding, powder coating, and installation services.

That’s one massive reason most interviewees hired them for bespoke jobs. Specifically, this lot is favoured by people who need steelwork related to balustrades, motorcycle racks, brake callipers, tables, barriers, or anything in between.

There are snags, of course. The first one is the ‘in-house only’ setup; they don’t offer mobile services.

Making that bit trickier is the workshop’s Barnsley location. By car and from the Leeds CBD, it took us nearly 40 minutes to reach the joint.

Good thing iSteel’s record of meeting deadlines is positive. The same goes for their pricing, considered by many as fair.

Pros

  • Flexible
  • Wide range of in-house services
  • Fair pricing
  • Operating since 2017

Cons

  • No mobile services
  • Barnsley location

Very Helpful

Excellent service. Fast turn around at the right price. Pete was very helpful and accommodating, considering this was a one off piece. Top quality finish on my motorbike rack.

Thanks. Highly recommend IS Powder Coating

We can’t talk about cost-efficiency without giving G&S Welding Services their flowers. For the fair rates you pay, the quality is spot on.

Honestly, that should be expected. They’re CHAS-approved and hold BINDT and City & Guilds certifications, on top of being around since 2018.

G&S’s scope is broad, too. One peek at the portfolio reveals their capability to handle domestic and commercial work, be it automobile mods or broken item repairs.

The crew is especially solid when it comes to welding and installing gates, barriers, and fences, though you can pretty much hire them for custom gigs.

However, they’re on the smaller side. Longer lead times are rare but not impossible.

We also think booking ahead is smart. Homeowners love this lot, so slots can run dry.

Besides, it’s the owner, Stuart Galbraith, whom you’ll have a natter with. That cuts off the hassle of dealing with mithering runarounds.

Pros

  • Open since 2018
  • Fair pricing
  • Specialises in gates, barriers, and fences
  • Direct communication with the owner

Cons

  • Smaller team
  • High demand = tricky to book

Did a Great Job

Had my sofa collapse through and these guys agreed to repair it after a few pictures to assess. Not only did they fix the broken parts they also added extra support. It’s has been over a week since the repair and haven’t had a single issue. The guys did a great job at great price in great turn around time. 100% would recommend!

It’s no accident Troydale keeps popping up on our write-ups, like our recent list on Leeds’ top metal fabricators. I mean, their rep has been stellar for yonks, since 1990, to be specific.

It also helps that they’re mobile. For those looking to maintain current fixtures without moving around or paying for full replacements, it’s a major boon.

Surveys cost nada either, and it’s Wayne (their director) who’ll bob into your spot to take the measurements. Don’t be shy about firing off queries regarding timelines or prices; the guy is straightforward.

Speaking of prices, Troydale’s fees are reasonable but not the lowest.

Another hiccup is that they only specialise in steel and ironwork. Say you need a team for aluminium welding, more suitable options are in town.

But hey, the usual turnaround is only 3 to 5 days, and they’ll carry on even if the weather throws a wobbly.

Pros

  • Open since 1990
  • Offers mobile services
  • Surveys are free
  • Quick turnaround

Cons

  • Not the cheapest option
  • Focuses on steel and ironwork

The fit and finish are superb.

Wayne and his team have done a fantastic job with our new gates. From initial survey with Wayne, who was very knowledgeable, helpful, friendly and polite, to his installation team Dave and Wellington who worked tirelessly to install the gates. Again, helpful courteous and professional, the fit and finish are superb, they cleaned up thoroughly after themselves and left the place spotless. I would highly recommend Troydale Fabrications for all your gates and fabrication work. I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

Second to None

Wayne d the team have been incredibly friendly and helpful from the first message sent, right through to the work being completed. Our gate and railings were ready sooner than we had anticipated and we’re fitted within a few weeks of the initial measuring. They were very competitive with there pricing and the standard of work and attention to detail is second to none. We can’t recommend this family run business enough! Thanks guys!
