Be bug-free with the best software development firms in Leeds!

Effective Communication Skills: We graded this based on responsiveness during consultations and the quality/frequency of updates, confirmed through a combination of experience (test calls and visits), interviews, and written feedback.

Professionalism also mattered, so those with personable reps definitely got some props.

Experience: Companies that have worked with more than three industries for at least 5 years were prioritised. Portfolio diversity and legitimate business profiles were used to verify that.

Cost-Efficiency: We browsed through every candidate’s pricing model to gauge how cost-efficient their products and services are. Loyalty programmes, discounts, and transparency were the other factors we considered.

Adaptability: Our experience and chats with clients, both past and present, played a significant role in this one. We looked at each developer’s history of handling project changes, like the integration of new tools or requests.

Customer-Centric: Tailored and scalable solutions were given importance, following the ‘customer obsession’ philosophy of big-hitters like Amazon and Apple. We verified this through interviews, experience, and case studies.

A mate of mine who runs a cafe once said, ‘You should always have a software dev on speed dial.’ Couldn’t agree more. That loyalty app isn’t going to code itself!

The truth is that applies to a lot of businesses. Just look around; restaurants are now swapping chalkboards for online menus, and you probably get your Jordans or Burberry trench coats from an online store.

Finding an excellent software team doesn’t take a single Google search, though. Factors like experience, value, and scalability deserve thorough consideration. Fortunately, that’s exactly what we did with the list below.

How much do software development firms charge in the UK?

Software development firms in the UK typically charge between £31,500 and $63,000 for simple projects, £63,000 to £118,000 for moderately complicated ones, and £118,000-plus for highly intricate builds.

If we’re talking hourly rates, freelancers often charge £20 to £44, in-house teams fall between £63 and £118, and outsourced teams can go as high as £32 to £71.

1. Glow

glow-logo

Address: 12 King St

Contact Details: 0113 880 0005

Operating Hours: Daily – 7 am to 10 pm

Website

If your business manages multiple WordPress websites, Glow is a fitting choice.

Convenience is the number one reason. The product named after the firm puts crucial tools in a single dashboard, including report and update trackers.

Clients also brought up the built-in ticket system. It’s a feature that automatically turns emails into manageable tickets, keeping tabs on who sent it, what issue they’re having, and which teammate should work on it.

It’s user-friendly, too. The clients won’t be required to use an app, just their email accounts, while your team gets to track every request, including their urgency level.

No massive concerns on the pricing structure either. There’s a free version for seeing how it works, and the higher-tiered packages are ideal for scaling, with rates just between £36 and £146.

It’s WordPress-specific, though. If you use or prefer a totally custom-built website, Glow isn’t the pick.

We also think they’re not the most cost-efficient choice for companies with fewer clients.

Pros

  • Convenient single-dashboard ticketing system
  • Scalable model
  • Reasonable prices
  • Free trial

Cons

  • WordPress-specific
  • Suited for larger companies

A Game-Changer

Glow has been a game-changer for us as it allows you to quickly oversee which websites require site updates and the website monitoring built in is amazing. I’d recommend this product to other agencies/businesses. The implementation & integration process is very simple & the customer support has been solid. I use this once a month to ensure WP websites are up to date for our clients.

Closed Tickets Efficiently

With Glow, I can not only reduce time for WordPress management but also bring support requests in one dashboard allowing both other team members and clients to visually see open / closed tickets efficiently.

2. NewRedo

newredo-logo

Address: Platform, New Station St

Contact Details: 0113 320 7336

Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5 pm

Website

NewRedo is a bril choice if you want software that doesn’t box you in a template. You see, they design custom-built ones based entirely on how your company operates.

We also appreciate how they consider user-friendliness and overall usability before pushing forward. As per our interviewees, the team tests the water first, conducting user-based research (done by data scientists).

Beyond that, NewRedo works with clients to build effective strategies, which is massive for future-focused companies. Your present and long-term needs will be analysed, followed by a tailored plan that can save precious hours and cash.

Downsides? The services aren’t cheap, and the build time can take weeks to months. That’s bad news for smaller firms that need solutions ASAP.

On a positive note, they’re customer service isn’t shabby. A couple of my mates who worked with NewRedo mentioned the latter’s timely updates and quick answers.

Pros

  • Tailored services
  • Conducts user-based research first
  • Provides short-term and long-term strategies
  • Works with data scientists

Cons

  • Pricey
  • Longer build time

Fantastic Experience

NewRedo has been an absolute game-changer for me and my APIMS product! The quality of their development work and services is exceptional. Their customer service has been an invaluable support during intricate and demanding developmental phases. They are positively investing in APIMS’s success with their time, resources and contacts. I’ve had a fantastic experience – the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and engaging. I highly recommend NewRedo to anyone looking for reliable technology solutions and a seamless experience. Congrats to the team for their outstanding work!

The Communication Between Our Companies Is Very Good

Our business relationship with NewReDo is still quite new but so far, we have been impressed with the team. The communication between our companies is very good, and we feel well informed regarding progress on our projects. They offer us creative solutions to our system issues and have a real “can do” attitude – essential for the success of both of our businesses!

3. Motion 12

motion-12-logo

Address: Compass House, East St

Contact Details: 0113 534 3255

Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5:30 pm

Website

Its all-in-one model makes Motion 12 a practical and efficient choice. This team handles processes like software design, branding, and even visual assets like personalised illustrations.

The best part is that they remain a solid contender even if you simply need software-related offerings. Their extensive range allows for that, with solutions such as custom software development, headless integration, and systems design.

Sam and his crew deserve a shout as well. Based on our chats, there’s no sales talk, and they conduct thorough interviews that are especially useful for entrepreneurs who need branding strategies.

That said, we don’t think they’re the finest pick for folks looking for a one-page site. Rates also come at a premium, since they do tailored work.

If you value client retention, the cons above might not matter. Motion 12 tends to build lasting relationships, with 10 years being the longest we encountered.

Pros

  • Offers niche services like illustrations, branding, and animation
  • Retains most clients
  • Conducts thorough interviews
  • Best for companies after an all-in-one service

Cons

  • Bad fit for smaller businesses
  • Premium rates

Technically Brilliant

I’m compelled to write this review but I urge you to stop reading and pick up the phone!

Motion 12 are, without a doubt, the best agency we have worked with. Technically brilliant, Sam and the team deliver quality work on time, every time. Yes, this is awesome, but their support and communication are the things that really knock our socks off! From a new project to further development or just a small tweak, the motion 12 guys are with you at every step.

If you’re looking for a new partner, do not pass go. These guys are awesome!

4. DevStack

devstack-logo

Address: Platform, New Station St

Contact Details: 0113 493 1006

Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5:30 pm

Website

The 2013-founded DevStack earns extra credit for taking a collaborative approach. Clients we talked to value the firm’s get-to-know-each-other phase, often conducted via workshops on business goals and potential risks.

Service-wise, they build fully tailored software through a process we’d describe as ‘efficient, safe, and clean.’ Prototypes and wireframes are created first, so you can visualise the user experience before launching the development phase.

A dedicated UX team is also on deck. From what we’ve gathered, they’re indeed well-versed in developing user-friendly and intuitive interfaces.

They also have one of the longest service lists here. Aside from software development, DevStack offers integration, AI learning, and Blockchain solutions.

Regarding disadvantages, they lack ready-made templates that smaller operations would probably prefer.

If that’s not a cause for concern, you’d be glad to know they work with established names. Think Virtual College, Grant & Bowman, and Peritus Health Management.

Pros

  • Conducts workshops to get to know clients better
  • Solid client list (including Virtual College and Grant & Bowman)
  • Dedicated UX team
  • Extensive service list

Cons

  • Lack of ready-made templates
  • Not suited for smaller businesses

Very Happy With the Final Result

We’ve had an excellent experience working with the DevStack team. They are meticulous in their work and provide excellent customer service. I would highly recommend them! From conceptualisation to project management to implementation, we felt confidently guided through the processes, and we are very happy with the final result.

– Andrew Lythe, Google Review

High Return On Our Investment

We needed a solution that would reduce the amount of resources we were using for a repetitive task. DevStack developed a platform that our administrators were able to use which ultimately saved us a lot of time and effort and we gained a high return on our investment. We were able to provide quicker turnarounds as a result of this and it really added value for our external customers.– Andrew Lythe, Google Review

5. Clockwork Creative Technology

Contact Details: 0113 243 6054

Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 9 am to 5:30 pm

Website

Time-tested reliability is a major perk of Clockwork Creative Technology. The firm has been operating since 1995, with a portfolio that includes Xerox, Unilever, and Bettys.

They use the Claris FileMaker Software, a powerful tool for developing software and automating workflows. It’s even regarded for integrating pre-built connectors with different cloud storage or email marketing tools.

Some clients, however, have noted that it can be too pricey for smaller businesses or startups. We also received feedback about the platform being a bit complex for non-tech-savvy users.

On the bright side, it’s great for ready-made solutions, such as warehouse management, site auditing, store profiling, studio management, and artwork generation (the latter achieved by robotising Adobe InDesign).

Security and scalability are other boxes they tick, thanks to the firm having its own data centre. As of 2025, it has 50 dedicated servers, which often translates to robust data protection and faster load times.

Pros

  • Operating since 1995
  • Established clientele (such as Xerox, Unilever, and Bettys)
  • Has ready-made solutions
  • Offers IT services
  • Runs its own data centre with 50 servers

Cons

  • Can be pricey for smaller businesses
  • FileMaker is complex to some

Enhanced Our Technology

Clockwork have done an amazing job remodelled our proprietary FileMaker based CRM system and taking over our IT support.

Nothing is too much trouble and the speed of response is near immediate.

Their “digital transformation” plan has massively enhanced our technology and business processes helping to keep us at the forefront of our industry.

The team themselves are wonderful to work with also. I would thoroughly recommend them to anyone!
