The Best Psychotherapists in Leeds for Judgment-Free Expert Help

Degree and Training. We checked that the psychotherapists had a bachelor’s in psychology, nursing, medicine, or social work, and a postgraduate degree in psychology that’s recognised by a renowned institution like the UK Council for Psychotherapy.

Then, the psychotherapists should complete at least 450 hours of practice, which can take between three and four years to complete.

Variety of Services. We want a clinic with psychotherapists who specialise in different modalities and can handle a wide array of mental conditions, such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, and OCD.

It would also be nice if they offered different therapy setups, such as individual and group sessions.

Approach. Ideally, the psychotherapist should be kind, nonjudgmental, and empathetic. They should also be able to stick to the client’s goals when coming up with a treatment plan.

We acknowledge that our experience is limited, so we also asked other clients for well-rounded insights.

Pricing. We want the rates to stay between the £80-to-£100-per-hour ballpark. If the psychotherapist offered a free consultation and accepted insurance, then all the better.

Counselling is all well and good when I’m feeling lost, but sometimes, my anxiety and depression pull me down so much that I need a different strategy.

This is when psychotherapy comes in. It’s a long-term process that focuses on recurring and chronic mental health problems, while counselling only focuses on finding solutions to resolve current issues.

I’ve been with my psychotherapist for a few years now, and she’s been amazing. If you’re also looking to try out psychotherapy, here are some excellent psychotherapists in Leeds you can try.

How much does psychotherapy cost in Leeds?

Psychotherapy in Leeds usually costs between £80 and £100 per hour. The rate usually depends on the rank of the psychotherapist (are they junior or senior staff?), the modality used (e.g., cognitive behavioural therapy, play therapy, and music therapy), and the reputation of the clinic.

1. Juna Brookes

Operating Hours: Monday to Friday—8 am to 9 pm

Contact Number: +447890741010

Website

Juna Brookes is my go-to therapist, and considering my experience with her, I can recommend her to anyone, especially if you suffer from trauma, PTSD, depression, or anxiety disorder.

To make things better, she can cater to clients of all ages!

Just keep in mind that she specialises only in eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) and hypnotherapy, which might not work for everyone.

That said, I really commend the psychotherapist’s approach. I love that she’s respectful; she never pushes me to provide more details of my past, just waits for me to offer it freely. She also provides angles that challenge my perception, and I appreciate that.

However, I do acknowledge that the prices here are too high. The initial consultation alone costs £125, and if you choose to proceed, you’re required to commit to either four or five sessions.

But if you truly can’t afford her base prices, she might offer you a sliding scale payment or a discount. That’s something at least.

Pros

  • Specialises in trauma, PTSD, depression, and anxiety
  • Caters to clients of all ages
  • Respectful psychotherapist
  • Sliding scale payments or discounts might be available in certain circumstances

Cons

  • Only offers EMDR and hypnotherapy
  • Expensive

Helpful sessions

I have contacted Juna about four months ago. I struggled in my current relationship due to my past experiences. Juna has recommended EMDR and a talking therapy to help me move forward with my life. Since then, I have been feeling happy again, have successfully managed to come off antidepressants after 3.5 years and have been looking forward to the future. Thank you.”

Transformational sessions

My dad passed away recently and as the grief became overwhelming, I recognised I needed help. I found Juna by chance but it’s been such a blessing, I’ve started EMDR for grief and for the first time in 6 months, I’ve felt able to breathe a little more and tone down the volume of my sadness. More sessions to go, but the first few have been transformational. Thanks, Juna.

The base price at Leeds Anxiety Clinic is £80 per hour, making this clinic perfect for people looking for a more affordable option. They do have a more expensive option (£120), but it’s not necessary. It’s for when you prefer a chartered psychologist

This clinic doesn’t offer free initial consultations, but they do offer a money-back guarantee. So, if you’re not satisfied with your first experience, they’ll refund you in full.

One thing that clients like about this clinic is the convenience. They recommend face-to-face sessions, but if you can’t make it to the clinic or you’re not comfortable with this in-person setup, you can opt for an online therapy session instead.

Clients also like that the psychotherapists don’t stick to a template for everyone. Instead, they customise the plan depending on your needs. Because of this, you can feel like someone is truly listening to you.

However, one downside to this clinic is that the psychotherapists only specialise in anxiety issues. If you’re struggling with other mental or behavioural conditions, there are better options here.

Also, this clinic only accepts adult patients. So, you’ll have to look for a different psychotherapist if it’s your child who needs help.

Pros

  • Affordable rates
  • Money-back guarantee
  • Offers both face-to-face and online sessions
  • Personalised sessions

Cons

  • Only specialises in anxiety issues
  • Can’t cater to children and teenage patients

Professional service

Presumably, if you’re reading this then things are not going that great. From day one Chris Osborne worked with me not as a mate but as a professional therapist with the aim of relieving distress. Over the last few months a bit at a time things have got better and a lot of credit goes to Chris for guiding me through.”

Life-changing sessions

Chris is a fantastic therapist and helped me so much to understand and deal with my OCD, I would seriously recommend Chris to anyone who is struggling with their anxiety/OCD and feels they have tried every possible thing! Life-changing!

Luke Stableford is another great option if you want something affordable. The rates here start at £80 per hour for individual therapy, and you can score a discount if you book a five-session package.

If you’re not sure about this psychotherapist, you can book an exploration call, which comes free of charge!

Another great thing about this psychotherapist is that he offers therapy for both individuals and couples. And if you can’t make it to the physical clinic, then you can go for a remote session instead.

Clients praised Luke’s personality. They shared that he’s friendly and down-to-earth, making it easy to open up during the sessions.

That said, take note that this therapist specialises only in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). It’s a modality that works best for a lot of conditions, such as anxiety, depression, and even complex issues like OCD, but there’s still a chance it won’t work for you.

Pros

  • Affordable rates
  • Free exploration call
  • Offers both individual and couples therapy
  • Face-to-face and online sessions available
  • Friendly and approachable psychotherapist

Cons

  • Only specialises in CBT

Compassionate and gentle approach

Had a wonderful experience with Luke. He is incredibly compassionate and gentle, creating a safe and welcoming space for every session. His approach made me feel supported and valued throughout the process. I highly recommend Luke to anyone seeking a therapist who combines professionalism with genuine care.

Understanding approach

The therapy I had with Luke was the best experience of therapy I have ever had in my life. When I started with him, I was struggling immensely with OCD and after a lot of work guided by Luke, thanks to him I now feel like my life is back on track both in my work life and relationships. I couldn’t recommend him enough, the tools he equipped me with to deal with issues were vital and he was understanding and compassionate throughout. Many many thanks.”

What I like most about the Head Agenda Counselling and Therapy is the variety of services. Their psychotherapists can handle all sorts of issues, from anxiety to trauma, and they can do individual therapy, couples therapy, and family therapy.

Their clientele is just as diverse. They’ve worked with kids, teenagers, and adults, and they even have special services for corporate clients, including therapeutic support, employee therapy, and clinical coaching for professionals.

Clients praise the psychotherapists for their supportive nature. One shared that her therapist made sure to provide a safe environment to explore different topics. She also challenged the client when it mattered most, providing more insight and reflection.

The rates are pretty good, too. Individual psychotherapy usually costs £84, but if you want a CBT specialist, the price will be £108. Understandably, couples and family therapy charges more, but it isn’t by much (£96 for couples and £120 for family).

The only downside is the lack of emergency service. Your therapist can only meet you at the scheduled appointment, so if you’re in an emergency, you’ll need to seek other resources.

Pros

  • Wide variety of services
  • Diverse clientele
  • Can offer different therapy setups
  • Supportive psychotherapists
  • Affordable rates

Cons

  • No emergency services

Kind and attentive therapist

I’ve worked with Head Agenda for 2 years, Catherine was a very kind and attentive therapist and supported me through a challenging period. I have been able to grow and have learnt an enormous amount during this time. I would thoroughly recommend.

– Ruth Thomas, Google Review

Fantastic service

Absolutely fantastic service! I felt listened to and supported through the whole process. I had Claire as a counsellor and she was amazing! She was very attentive and caring. She took the time to help me understand my feelings which meant that I came away from each session feeling better and better. Claire has had a huge impact on my day to day life. I would absolutely recommend Claire and Head Agenda to anybody who is thinking about therapy.”

5. Restore Control

Address: 31 Park Square W

Operating Hours

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday—7 am to 6 pm
  • Tuesday—1 pm to 8 pm

The first thing I like about Restore Control is the clinic’s location. It’s conveniently situated by Park Square, with the therapy room looking out into the park. The room also has a cosy feel to it, so every session is warm and peaceful.

The psychotherapist here, Kuba Grzegrzolka, specialises in different types of modalities, which is impressive. CBT is the most common, but he can also do EMDR and the Method of Levels (MOL) therapy.

Because of this, he can handle a wide array of issues and conditions, including depression, anxiety, phobias, PTSD, OCD, and panic disorder.

Kuba’s approach is gentle, as he strives to let the clients do the talking and guide the sessions. Clients told me that he never pushes them to share beyond what they’re comfortable with, and when they do open up, he’s incredibly understanding.

Each session costs £120, which is pretty expensive, in my opinion. Fortunately, the psychotherapist is registered with a few insurance providers, so you can fund your sessions that way.

He also has a satisfaction guarantee, so if you’re not satisfied with the session, he’ll give you a full refund!

Pros

  • Great location
  • Cosy clinic
  • Specialises in different modalities
  • Can handle different conditions
  • Gentle and understanding psychotherapist
  • Accepts insurance
  • Satisfaction guarantee available

Cons

  • Expensive

Meaningful sessions

I had the chance to work with Kuba for 10 months. Honestly, I never believed therapy could do much—I didn’t think it could help me understand myself better, accept who I am, or even get in touch with my own values. But he changed that. He was actually the fifth psychologist I had a first session with, and somehow, from the very start, I felt this was the right fit. I’m genuinely grateful for every session we had and the support I received. It made a real difference. If you’re thinking about therapy, I couldn’t recommend him more—it’s truly worth it.

– Mateusz Nowotnik, Google Review

Makes clients feel comfortable

Kuba was my therapist for more then 6 months and helped to successfully manage and recover from anxiety and other issues I had! He helped me to understand how to manage emotions during difficult life periods. He is very understanding, not pushy and always give you a choice for different routes therapy might go. He is also very comforting and I was very comfortable and open to talk to him about private topics. I would definitely recommend Kuba as a therapist! Thank you, Kuba.”
