Elevate your yard with the best landscaping services in Leeds

Services offered - We looked at whether these companies provide a full range of landscaping options, including turfing, planting, patios, decking, and water features.

Track record - We considered their past projects and the opinions we’ve gathered from their clients to see if they consistently deliver quality results.

Availability - We checked if they serve most areas around Leeds and whether they’re available year-round, not just during peak summer months.

Professionalism - We assessed how reliable they are with appointments, how well they communicate, and whether they treat clients respectfully throughout the process.

Price fairness - We judged whether their quotes are transparent and reasonable, taking into account materials, labour, turnaround times, and insurance coverage.

For years, my garden looked like a sad patch of dirt, the kind of space you’d avoid showing in photos. Every time I walked past the neighbours’ neat lawns, mine felt like the awkward cousin no one talks about.

I finally decided enough was enough and called in a landscaping crew to work their magic. Now I’ve got a proper garden where I can kick back with a drink in summer and not feel like I’m sitting in a dust bowl!

Since the makeover made such a difference, I thought I’d share the best landscapers in Leeds for other homeowners. Also, I have a list of the best interlocking pavers in Leeds in case you want to upgrade your driveway.

How much does a landscaping project cost in Leeds?

The average cost for a typical landscaping project in Leeds is around £5,000, but that figure can swing quite a bit depending on what you’re after. Prices are shaped by the size of your garden, how complex the design is, the materials you choose, and the amount of labour involved.

Greener Gardens is one of those newer outfits that I’ve come across when looking into local landscaping services. They cover Leeds and the nearby towns, offering services like fencing, decking, and turfing.

What I liked is that they give free quotes without any pressure, so it’s easier to weigh options before spending anything.

It’s also worth mentioning that they’ve teamed up with Palmer’s Plants, so the greenery they use tends to be good quality and well-sourced. They’re also licensed waste carriers, which means when they clear up after a job, you know it’s handled properly.

On the flip side, their prices are slightly higher than some of the other local companies, and being fairly new, they don’t have a long track record yet.

Pros

  • Free no-obligation quotes
  • Works closely with Palmer’s Plants for quality greenery
  • Fully-licensed waste carriers for proper disposal
  • Covers Leeds and surrounding areas

Cons

  • Slightly above-average fees
  • Fairly new company without a long track record

They were professional, quick and friendly

“Rob and his team did a great job with our garden. They were professional, quick and friendly. We are very happy with the new garden (decking, paving, pergola) and would highly recommend.”

They left our patio and garden area tidier than when they arrived

“Really impressed with Rob and his team from Greener Gardens. Our lawn was uneven, neglected and full of weeds. In a day it has been transformed—completely levelled, drainage added and beautiful new grass laid. On top of that, they left our patio and garden area tidier than when they arrived. Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again. Thanks!”

First Light Landscaping has been part of the Leeds scene for over 15 years and has built a strong reputation. They became even more well-known after winning the Principal Award at the BALI National Landscape Awards 2022 for a project in Roundhay.

They handle both design and construction, but what really stood out to me are their design packages. These give you access to most of their services at a set price, and some even include the option of designing two gardens for the price of one!

You can get started with a free consultation, though it’s only done over the phone. That can be disappointing for folks who are expecting a thorough assessment of their properties.

This company is also unavailable on weekends, which makes scheduling a bit tricky if you’re busy during the week.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of experience
  • Winner of the 2022 BALI Principal Award
  • Offers tailored landscape design packages
  • Handles both design and construction with full project management
  • Free consultations

Cons

  • Free consultation only available over the phone
  • Unavailable on weekends

They turned our back garden into our dream space

We now have the garden we have wanted for such a long time

“Thanks to FirstLight Landscaping we now have the garden we have wanted for such a long time. We cannot praise the team enough. From our initial contact, to the completion of work, they were all very friendly and professional. The job was completed to a high standard, in a timely manner and very tidily. To say we are impressed is an understatement. Thank you so much. We’re looking forward to spending lots of time outside in our newly finished space.”

I went with RightScapes when I realised how much they could actually bring to the table. Their designers know their stuff and can work with most garden styles, like modern, Japanese, and wildlife-friendly.

The options felt a bit much at first, so the free consultation helped me narrow things down. I settled on a cottage-style space because it felt homely, and the 3D CAD render they showed me later confirmed I had made the right call.

What impressed me most was how they added sustainable features into the design. My garden now has rainwater harvesters and drought-tolerant plants! They also gave me a 10-year guarantee on the hard landscaping.

The only drawbacks are their smaller portfolio and the fact that they only cover Leeds and Harrogate. Nearby towns like Morley and Tingley aren’t included.

Pros

  • Free consultations
  • 3D CAD renders for clear visualisation
  • Wide range of garden styles offered
  • Sustainable features like rainwater harvesters
  • Wildlife-friendly options available
  • 10-year guarantee on hard landscaping materials

Cons

  • Not available in nearby towns like Morley and Tingley
  • Portfolio smaller compared to bigger firms

The end product was exactly what we wanted

“I would highly recommend Rightscapes who did a fantastic job landscaping our front garden. They were very knowledgeable and easy to work with. The end product was exactly what we wanted. Thank you so much for a lovely job done.”

-Zoe Lawson, Google Reviews

We are delighted with the results of their work

“Sam, Josh and Jason took our ideas on board and interpreted them in a professional but fuss-free way. Everything arrived on site in a timely way so absolutely no moment was wasted. I have never seen anyone work as hard as those three when ten tonnes of topsoil arrived! We are delighted with the results of their work. Highly recommended.”

Another landscaping company I genuinely recommend is Austin’s Gardens. They’ve been around for a good while and even picked up the Gold Award for Professional Gardens at the Harrogate Flower Show back in spring 2017!

A big part of their success comes down to Richard Austin, the director. He’s a qualified garden designer and trained plantsman with the Royal Horticultural Society, so the expertise is clear.

That background explains why they can offer such comprehensive horticulture services. If you want to bring in rare or striking plants, they’re well placed to help.

Since those plants often need extra care, it’s handy that they also provide regular garden maintenance. You can get a feel for everything they offer through a free initial meeting and consultation.

However, they have limited weekend availability. Also, some of their construction work is subcontracted, which can affect quality consistency.

Pros

  • Won Gold Award for Professional Gardens at Harrogate Flower Show 2017
  • Director is RHS-trained and highly qualified
  • Free initial meeting and consultation
  • Strong horticulture services with expertise in rare plants
  • Regular garden maintenance available

Cons

  • Limited weekend availability
  • Some construction work handled by subcontractors

We are delighted with the results!

“Austin’s Gardens designed, landscaped, and planted our front garden. It was a joyful experience from start to finish and we are delighted with the results! Our garden is lovely and peaceful and we are looking forward to seeing it grow. Richard and his team were attentive to what we wanted, talented in the way they translated this into a design, and skilled and knowledgeable in their work. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them! Thanks :)”

His planning, design and execution of the project cannot be faulted

“Richard created a very beautiful, low maintenance seaside garden from scratch for us which looks interesting throughout the year and draws many admiring inspections and comments from passers-by on the sea front. His planning, design and execution of the project cannot be faulted and we would highly recommend his work.”

Landscape Gardeners Leeds has been knocking for over 25 years, which is a fair stretch in this line of work. From what I’ve seen, they cover a lot of ground!

They’ll sort out soil conditioning if your garden is looking tired and handle tree surgery when branches get out of hand. They’re also decent with patios, paving, turfing, and fencing.

The free site visit is a nice touch because you get a proper look at what’s possible without paying upfront. I also like that you only pay once the job is done, which feels fairer than handing over cash before you’ve seen any results.

That said, they’re not perfect. Some people have mentioned they sometimes don’t reply to enquiries, and I’ve heard of appointments being missed.

When they do show up, the work tends to be solid, but you might need patience with the communication side.

Pros

  • Over 25 years of experience
  • Free site visit offered
  • Can do soil conditioning to rejuvenate gardens
  • Offers tree surgery services
  • Payment only on completion

Cons

  • Sometimes misses enquiries
  • Occasional missed appointments

Really pleased with the end result

“Really pleased with the end result, it looks fantastic and the price was reasonable. I was particularly happy about how quickly Wayne was able to come round to do a quote and how soon the job could be started. Dave, who carried out the work, was friendly, did a good job and cleaned up afterwards. Would hire them again.”
