The Best Home Healthcare Services in Leeds That Treat Everyone with Kindness and Dignity

  • Certification and Experience. We checked to ensure that the healthcare professionals—doctors, nurses, and personal care aides—are trained in healthcare and have a license or certification to prove it (e.g., a college diploma for nursing). We’d also like it if the carers have had at least five years of experience working as a home healthcare service provider.
  • Variety of Services. We looked at the company’s catalogue and judged the range of services they offered. In addition to the standard nursing care, they should also offer home support and specialised care for conditions like dementia and cancer.
  • Personality. People will be working with carers for a long period of time, so ideally, they should have a reputation for being warm, kind, and professional to their patients. We mostly used our experience for this criterion, but we also asked other clients and patients for their own insight.
  • Pricing. As much as possible, the cost shouldn’t exceed £25 per hour, with £20 per hour as our sweet spot. If the client wants a long-term arrangement, it would be great if the company allowed negotiations for the rate and the frequency of payment (e.g., weekly, monthly, and annually).

One of the worst things about growing up is seeing your parents age and get sick as well. Currently, I’m reminded of this reality because my father just suffered a stroke, and now, he can’t move or speak as well as he used to.

This situation is already heartbreaking as it is, but it’s even worse when I realise I can’t take care of him properly because I have work. This is why I’m thankful for home healthcare companies in Leeds; they’ve made our lives so much better.

Here are some places offering the best home healthcare in Leeds, just in case you’re on the same boat as me.

How much does home healthcare cost in Leeds?

The cost of hiring a home healthcare professional in Leeds is around £20 per hour. If you want the carer to live with you, this can cost you around £800 per week, though it can go as high as £1,600 per week if the patient needs a lot of care.

Home Instead comes highly recommended by many people all over the UK, and I can see why. Their list of services is extensive; they offer the standard care services, as well as specialist care options for more complex conditions like cancer and diabetes.

They even offer housekeeping and companionship services!

I also like that they let you choose the frequency of the services. Daytime and nighttime services are the most common, and overnight care is also an option. If the patient needs a lot of care, then you can have a live-in carer with you at home.

I love the people working here. In my experience, everyone is compassionate, attentive, and kind, and I always feel at ease even when I’m away for work because I know my dad is in good hands.

Though this company offers many services, there are some that are only available in certain locations in the UK. For example, enhanced care technology may not be available if you’re in Leeds.

You can always book a free initial consultation ahead of time if you want to know what services might not be available to Leeds residents.

Pros

  • Extensive array of services
  • Various frequency setups available
  • Live-in care available
  • Compassionate, attentive, and kind staff
  • Free initial consultation

Cons

  • Some services might not be available in Leeds

What people love most about Helping Hands Home Care Leeds is the flexibility. Even with the free initial consultation, they’re flexible. You can request either a home visit for a face-to-face chat or perhaps a call if you’re busy.

Take note that if you prefer a phone consultation, it won’t be instantaneous. Instead, you ask the company to call you, and that might take at least a day for them to respond.

After the care assessment, the team at the company will custom-tailor a care package for you. The best part is that they offer a wide array of services, so you can choose whether you want a daily or weekly visit or a live-in carer who’ll be available 24/7.

The carers are equipped to handle all sorts of medical conditions, such as dementia, stroke, and cancer. Beyond medical assistance, they can also help clients with mundane tasks, like cleaning the house, preparing meals, and running errands.

Unfortunately, I’ve heard about the management lacking empathy. One client shared that her husband just died, and she got billed because she didn’t give a two-week notice when this happened. This is upsetting, and I hope they’ve stopped doing it.

Pros

  • Flexible initial consultation (face-to-face or phone)
  • Custom-tailored care package
  • Wide array of services
  • Can deal with all sorts of medical conditions
  • Can help with mundane tasks

Cons

  • Might take some time before they respond to the callback request
  • Management lacking empathy

Flexible and understanding team

We contacted Helping Hands to get some help with my Mum recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. They have been great in terms of flexibility and understanding the need. The local team including management are very professional and caring and the carer has been amazing and really helped support the family. Definitely recommend Helping Hands.”

Excellent communication, reliable organization

I have been and am very pleased with the care my Mother has received from Helping Hands. The organisation is reliable and flexible and will implement additional care and support at short notice if circumstances change. Communication is excellent as I receive a rota twice a week which informs me the times the carers are schedule to visit. If the times do not suit then a call to the administrative staff at the local branch will rectify this. All the carers I have met have been polite, kind, and have treated Mum with respect and dignity. The organisation is an all rounder and does not just deal with Personal Care. Helping Hands have enabled Mum to live in the comfort and privacy of her own home. They give me peace of mind in the knowledge that if they have any concerns or issues they are brought to my attention immediately..”

The process of booking a care plan at Ethical Homecare is a breeze. You can start by calling the team to give a rundown of your needs. Then, someone will come to your house to assess the patient and provide a comprehensive plan. Just like that!

To make things better, both the call and the assessment are no-obligation and free of charge!

This company specialises mostly in personal care, in which the carers will help you maintain independence. They can do your daily tasks for you, monitor your health and medications, and simply be there for you as a companion.

This company also has carers who are skilled in helping patients with serious conditions like diabetes and dementia, and even learning disabilities like autism.

However, the carers here prefer a visiting setup, in which they come every day or every week to check up on their patient. If you prefer a live-in arrangement, I suggest looking for a different company.

Still, Ethical Homecare is worth considering simply because of their staff. Clients told me that the carers are kind and always treat their patients with dignity. Some carers can even get patients to laugh, which is so sweet.

Pros

  • Easy booking process
  • Wide array of services
  • Can help patients with serious conditions and disabilities
  • Free phone consultation and face-to-face assessment
  • Caring and kind carers

Cons

  • Prefers a visiting setup

Treats patients with dignity and kindness

Ethical Homecare has been amazing, we had a care package at home for my father. The ladies who attended were kind & caring. They treated my father with dignity and were very kind to my mum. Nothing was too much trouble. We as a family highly recommend this company from the management to the staff who do the most amazing job in a role that is hard work and demanding they don’t get the recognition they deserve. From the first meeting till the day my father went into a care home they have been there. Thank you isn’t enough.

Gloriavd Health Care Ltd is a great option if you just want a skilled companion to help you with your everyday tasks like bathing, feeding, and drinking your medicine. They can also keep your house clean for you or run some errands on your behalf.

The carers here are experienced in providing their services to people with dementia and learning disabilities, which is a plus. However, if your patient suffers from a serious illness like cancer, it might be better to look for a different healthcare provider.

Clients appreciate the carers for a variety of reasons. For one thing, they’re always punctual and efficient, and for another, they’re empathetic and friendly. They’re also neatly dressed, which gets them bonus points from their clients.

While most carers here operate on a visiting schedule, it’s also possible to hire a live-in one. This is a neat feature, especially if you want someone to watch over the patient 24/7.

If you’re still not sure about this company, you can book an initial appointment to discuss your needs and possible costs.

Website

Caring Folk Limited is a private company with a small infrastructure, which can be a double-edged sword.

On one hand, the vibe here is more intimate, like the carers are part of your family. But on the other hand, the team here is small, so booking a service might take some time, and switching to a different carer when your main one is unavailable might be tricky.

Still, this is a great company for home healthcare because they offer many services. They’re best known for their companionship for the elderly service, but they can also take care of people with dementia and cancer, and/or help out with the housekeeping.

This company prioritises flexibility, so you can have a care plan that fits your budget. Simply book an initial assessment—for free, by the way—and they can set up a short- or long-term arrangement for you.

The carers are constantly outstanding in their work. In particular, they’re very engaging with their patients, always asking questions about them and genuinely getting to know them. With this, I’m not surprised that many families consider their carers a part of them.

Pros

  • Wide array of services
  • Serves patients with dementia or cancer
  • Free initial assessment
  • Flexible plans
  • Engaging and friendly carers

Cons

  • Small team

Amazing carers

Fabulous carers, well-managed company. We have used services ranging from a sitting service to a four times a day care package. My parents were treated with dignity and respect at all times. The carers offered support and guidance and turned up on time whatever the weather (black ice, freezing fog etc). Dad needed the care package and we always knew he was in good hands. They also kept an eye on Mum and let us know if they felt something was amiss. Communication between the carers was great so if something unusual was noticed, the next carer would follow up on it and the office team were also made aware. Notes from each visit were kept in a file in the house so that we could refer to them if necessary or if medical staff needed any detailed information. Great company who made us feel confident in the care provided and always someone at the end of a telephone to help with queries/ concerns.

Fabulous service

Caring Folk have offered a fabulous service for my Mum who has suffered from Alzheimer’s, meaning Dad was able to keep her with him at home. The carers have all been lovely offering a high level of care with a friendly human side too. I’ve always felt Mum and Dad were in safe hands.”
