Bask in autumn’s glory at the best pumpkin patches near Leeds!

Come spooky season, while some kids are excited to collect sweets as ghosts and witches, ours are already plotting their pumpkin haul.

Quite honestly, we get it. Leeds is a jaunt from pick-your-own farms that level up in autumn, and what’s more Halloween than riding tractors, pushing muddy wellies, or carving your warty loot with a ghoul as your instructor?

Ah, I’d better zip it before nostalgia fully drags me back to my golden days as a nipper. Well, you came for our list of go-to pumpkin patches, and it’s there below.

Horsforth Pick Your Own, Kemps Farm

From kemps.farm

Address: W End Ln, Horsforth

Contact Details: 07798 937821

Website

You probably have a better chance of seeing Bigfoot at Roundhay Park than running out of pumpkins at Horsforth PYO. We rocked by last 2023, and they had about 70,000 pumpkins of all shapes and warty glory—think minis and big ones.

Additionally, there was a carving station, although our kids opted for an outing in the fields after picking. The witches and skeletons there intrigued them more.

Oh, and everything here is grown out in the Yorkshire elements. That means they’re usually available by autumn and are ripened naturally!

Tip: If you love strawberries, return here in June.

Swithens Farm

From swithensfarm

Address: Swithen’s Ln, Rothwell

Contact Details: 0113 282 8828

Operating Hours: Mon to Thu, Sat to Sun – 10 am to 5 pm

Website

Your kiddos can channel their inner Ghostbusters at Swithens Farm. The picking action here comes with a side of spookies, mainly ghosts.

It’s not just the patches either. Other Halloween-themed attractions open up in autumn, so there’s always a ‘haunted’ woodland to explore on a tractor, or a witch to take selfies with.

Not every kid enjoys ghoulish things, though, and that’s fine. The farm’s bouncy castles and bottle-feeding activities will take care of them.

Tip: Consider throwing a kids’ party here. It’s just £12.95 to £14.95 per child. Ring them up for the deets.

Brookleigh Pumpkins

From brookleigh_pumpkins

Address: Burley Rd, Menston

Contact Details: 07765 414733

Operating Hours: Daily – 10 am to 4 pm

We’ve swung by at Brookleigh Pumpkins since 2023, and it’s not going to change this year. Their big and small pumpkins are top-shelf, plus the hot choco of Monster Mummy Cafe is a perfect match for the nippy weather.

Props-wise, their interactive Halloween trail is among the best. It’s thick with witches who dance, a 10-foot grim reaper, and even a spider that’s into jumpscaring folks, with spooky laughter and squeals to boot!

Tip: Make sure to follow them on Insta to score tickets ASAP.

Whiteley’s Farm

From whiteleysfarm

Address: Hough Side Rd, Pudsey

Contact Details: 07981 211016

Website

Whiteley’s Farm came through with bargain prices. The 2024 edition had us picking mostly warty, yellow, and white pumpkins between £1 and £11.

They grow loads of squashes, too. We hauled them using wellies, and each kilo set us back £2.25.

The path, though, was incredibly slippery and muddy, so consider that if you have mobility concerns. On the upside, entry costs nothing, and the owner, who you’ll likely see in her scarecrow attire, is as peppy as they come!

Tip: They tend to sell out before October 30; take this into account when scheduling.

Castle Howard

From castle_howard

Address: Castle Howard

Contact Details: 01653 648333

Website

We originally went to Castle Howard for its grand Baroque and Palladian architecture, but what kept us longer there than we had planned were the statue-lined gardens and pumpkin patches.

Our score came in all sizes and colours, including white ones. Stopping by on a weekend was also a genius move, as the period had more activities, like a workshop on carving and decorating.

Tip: Apply for membership to get perks like free access to daytime activities, boat rides, and more.

Farmer Copleys

From steph_baxter_x

Address: Ravensknowle Farm, Pontefract Road

Contact Details: 01977 600200

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Sat – 8:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Sun – 8:30 am to 4 pm

Website

If you need a reason to hit up Farmer Copleys, how about the bit that it’s the UK’s biggest pumpkin festival? We’re talking 250 acres of autumn fun, so maybe leave those white kicks at home.

They also have around 250,000 pumpkins per year, and these aren’t your basic orange ones. There are black, red, and blue variants that go from £1.50 to £12 a piece.

Outside the patches, littlies can hop aboard fair rides or watch sheep races. The grown-ups, meanwhile, can nab local produce or stay for the Pumpkin Nights, where live tunes and bars await.

Tip: Give their FarmTrax Music Festival a shot, too!

Piglets Adventure Farm

From pigletsadventurefarm

Address: Towthorpe Grange, Towthorpe Moor Ln, Towthorpe, York

Contact Details: 01904 499183

Operating Hours:

  • Mon and Fri – 10:30 am to 5 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 10 am to 5 pm

Website

Our kids are already urging us to book a ticket to Piglet Adventure Farm’s PYO event. You see, they had a blast last year, lugging wellies loaded with white, bobbly, green, and small-to-large pumpkins.

Some dashed early to the carving tents, where they learned how to create some creepy masterpieces. The rest? They watched a magic show, escaped a mystery maze, bounced off a giant pillow, and drifted on go-karts—I can honestly go all day.

Tip: They’re 100% cashless, so bring your cards.

Birchfield Ice Cream Farm

From birchfieldicecreamfarm

Address: Oakmount House, Birchfield Farm, Summerbridge, Harrogate

Contact Details: 01423 781792

Operating Hours: Tue to Sun – 10 am to 4 pm

Website

We didn’t have to spend a fortune at the 6-acre Birchfield. Last 2024, their pumpkins only ranged from £2.50 to £12—a steal, if you ask me,

The variation was bonkers as well. We brought home and carved some rare finds, such as pink, blue, and multicoloured pumpkins.

After the picking session, off we went to their playbarn and maize maze. The nippers had so much fun there that they each gobbled 2–3 scoops of ice cream at the cafe post-playing.

Tip: Check the forecast. Their major attractions are weather-dependent.

Cannon Hall Farm

From cannonhallfarm

Address: Bark House Ln, Cawthorne, Barnsley

Contact Details: 01226 790427

Operating Hours: Daily – 10 am to 6 pm

Website

While entry to Cannon Hall Farm cost us £12.95 per person, it was money well spent. The fee included a complimentary pumpkin for every sprog and access to the farm’s best bits, including the petting zoo and adventure playground.

There was no shortage of pumpkins either, with about 10,000 ready for the picking. We focused on the £3 ones, dressing them up Halloween-style.

The farm’s ‘forbidden wood’ was a fun addition, too. If your minis are into skeletons and wizards, they’d probably agree.

Tip: You can indulge in their award-winning goods without travelling. Simply order their produce here.

Yorkshire Pumpkins

From yorkshirepumpkins

Address: Lodge Farm, Church Ln, Cundall, York

Contact Details: 07507 492835

Website

Why splash out at the supermarket when driving to Yorkshire Pumpkins doesn’t even take an hour? For reference, we grabbed four beasts and two minis here, and the final price was around £30.

Access to the play area was also free. There, our little monkeys climbed a hay bale mountain and tested their wits in a maze of ropes.

The only downside was that we missed out on their legendary pumpkin soup. Well, at least we now know the importance of being an early bird here.

Tip: Booking in advance is a must.

Bert’s Barrow

From berts_barrow

Address: Austfield Ln, Hillam

Contact Details: 07818 415320

Operating Hours: Daily – 9 am to 5 pm

Website

Bert’s Barrow offers £1 pumpkins, free entry, a scarecrow trail, and unspoiled countryside views. And yep, fairground rides are also part of the deal, so if your kids discover the farm’s PYO patch, you might as well plan the trip.

When it comes to pumpkin-related activities, the primary ones are carving and painting. The convenient part is that they supply the equipment, and you can order slushies and crepes while guiding the youngins.

Come nightfall, bars and pizza stalls open up, so don’t bail when the patches close during the golden hour!

Tip: They can host festive, boho, rustic, and other different styles of weddings.

Stockeld Park

From stockeldpark

Address: Wetherby Rd

Operating Hours: Mon to Sat – 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

Website

Rain or shine, we won’t say no to a Stockeld Park picking experience. Thousands of pumpkins line up here every autumn, and ticket-holding kids get one for free.

Once the pumpkins are packed, families can then take a stroll through the 40-acre park’s Enchanted Forest or maze, both filled with ghoulish and witchy creatures.

The cherry on top? Should the Yorkshire weather turn to its typical drizzle, The Playhive, an indoor playground with giant slides, will save the day.

Tip: You can reach the farm from Leeds by boarding the number 7, Harrogate – Wetherby – Leeds bus.

Spilmans

From spilman_farming

Address: Church Farm, Thirsk

Contact Details: 07754 857284

Operating Hours:

  • Tue to Wed – 9 am to 6 pm
  • Thu – 9 am to 5 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 9 am to 6 pm

Website

There wasn’t a dull second during our Spilmans escape. There were attractions galore there, kicking off with the farm’s 125,000 homegrown pumpkins and fireworks display.

Their 10-acre field had its share of oddball features, too. In fact, this is the only PYO farm we saw where a pumpkin slingshot was set up a few steps from a BB machine gun range and a corn cannon.

The same quirkiness is present in their shows and parties, particularly the Halloween-themed ‘Got Talent’ contest and the fancy dress disco led by a skeleton.

Tip: Booking early will score you cheaper tickets.
