We ran a profile check on the best carpenters in Leeds

Experience: Registries, portfolios, and chats with past clients were used to determine each entry’s tenure.

Carpenters who’ve handled over 10 projects for at least 3 years were prioritised. Those who can handle commercial or industrial work scored even higher.

Reliability: To rate timeliness and consistency (particularly in terms of honouring set deadlines/schedules), we banked on interviews and personal experience, shortlisting candidates with little to no record of delays.

Certification: Our chosen entries have CSCS cards and comply with the UK’s building regulations. Those with awards and accreditations (like those given by NVQ) were favoured.

Communication Skills: Direct contact and interviews gauged the carpenters’ client service end. Clarity, response speed, politeness, post-work support, and transparency influenced the marks.

Pricing: Quotes were compared to see who offers the best value for money, or are close to/within Leeds’ typical pricing range for carpentry projects. Transparent and timely quotes mattered too.

My younger brother’s ‘side project’ in his house now greets visitors as a costly mistake and safety threat.

He could’ve saved himself the trouble if he had just listened when I said, ‘Mate, just call a carpenter.’ These pros simply have the expertise, tools, paperwork, and experience for renovation or construction undertakings.

Sounds like what you’re after, eh? We gathered Leeds’ finest below, specifically the most efficient choices who don’t lower their standards.

How much do carpenters charge in Leeds for an hour of work?

Most carpenters in Leeds charge an hourly rate that ranges from £25 to £40. When it comes to daily rates, though, they sit somewhere between £200 and £300.

The final price is often influenced by the following factors: the site’s location, the property’s age/condition, the project’s timeline, and the job size or complexity.

Boy on Branch’s custom-made interior and exterior work cracked them a spot here. Clients love the ‘truly from the scratch’ approach, as well as the durable and aesthetic results.

There’s no middleman to complicate things either. Owner Adam Baker handles the communication end himself, and he’s a first-rate listener, especially when it comes to design talk.

Speciality-wise, he’s pretty adaptable, though fitted wardrobes, garden rooms, alcove units, doors, and shelves earn top acclaim. Many have booked him for general carpentry as well, earning him versatility points from us.

As a one-man specialist, however, Adam’s availability isn’t always locked in. That only feels worse thanks to the lack of weekend hours.

Fortunately, waiting for a reply and a schedule rarely goes beyond a month. He often responds to emails within 24 hours and can start a job after a week or two.

Pros

  • Specialises in custom-made woodwork
  • No middlemen
  • Nearly 5 years in operation
  • Relatively fair prices for bespoke services

Cons

  • One-man operation
  • Lack of weekend hours

Great Build

Amazing work on our full wall fitted shelves from start to finish, Adam helped us with design and did all the hard work on this great build and installation. We’re so happy with the results. The detail such as the soft close doors and the moveable shelves as well as the lights make all the difference. Already thinking about our next Boy on Branch project. Would recommend.

AMAZING

I commissioned a cabin bed, with a separate desk underneath, for my son. When it was finished, and in place, I had no idea it would be so AMAZING!!! I knew it would be good, but when I saw the lovely different textures and colours of the wood, the clever joints as the bed has no nails or screws—it looks so unique and beautiful, as does the desk. Adam listened to what we wanted, and added ideas of his own, I would definitely recommend and will ask him to make more things for us🙂

Operating Hours: Mon to Fri – 8 am to 5 pm

Having 15-plus years in the trade is one fair reason Leeds Signature Joinery is here.

Flexibility is another, as they regularly handle medium- to large-scale projects, including kitchen installation, flooring, roofing, and more.

Their efficiency score is on the higher end, too, which isn’t a surprise. After all, they’re an outfit of carpenters, not a lone joiner.

And yes, that means you can leave project management to them. Think planning, scheduling, logistics, and finish oversights.

Naturally, that comes with a premium tag. If a minor fix or shelf is all you need, it’s best to ring the small-time lads.

They have no Saturday and Sunday hours either, bad news if that period is your only opening.

Communication is brill, though, especially if you get Armando. Clients shared that he’s transparent, speedy in terms of replies, and hands out valuable tips instead of just saying ‘yes.’

Pros

  • Over 15 years of experience
  • Offers 20-plus services
  • Can manage a project
  • Specialises in medium/large-scale projects

Cons

  • Premium price not suitable for small projects
  • No weekend hours

Very Professional

Absolutely fantastic job, had a kitchen fitted and over the moon with the results. Brilliant communication and very professional. Would definitely recommend and get work done again by Armando!

Replies Quickly

Top service from Armando at Leeds Signature Joinery. Replies quickly (seemingly rare for some tradespeople) and takes great pride in his work. Look forward to working with him more on future home improvement projects. Highly recommended for any kind of woodwork you need doing.

Versatile is one way of describing Callum of CB Carpentry. See, his work covers staircases, wardrobes, loft conversions, and even fully bespoke window seats.

Both ‘experience’ and ‘certification’ boxes are also checked. He holds an NVQ (Level 3) certificate and has over 15 years in the game.

Past that, Callum is big on fusing practicality and creativity. Just peep his ‘under-stairs, slide-out cupboard;’ it’s aesthetically pleasing and space-saving alike.

That said, CB Carpentry is another ‘one-man show.’ You might not land the schedule you’re hoping for.

We also chatted with a handful of clients who complained about their inquiries not getting a response.

On the bright side, Callum grinds daily, leaving you with lots of wriggle room. None of our other entries can brag about that.

Nothing but props for his polite and non-pushy style, too. He gave us a zero-pressure quote, and most clients say the same.

Pros

  • Over 15 years of experience
  • Versatile
  • Creative and practical approach
  • Available daily

Cons

  • One-man operation
  • History of not responding

Worth Every Penny

Callum made a bespoke desk in our garage conversion. We chose MDF over real wood. He built just what we had in mind. He always kept to dates and times provided and gave us plenty of time if anything needed to change. We were so pleased with the finished product. Callum did us proud. He provided an excellent, professional and friendly service and I would highly recommend him to family and friends without hesitation. Price wise he was spot on. Worth every penny. Thank you.

Solid Structure

Callum did a grand job on a 2m high split gate I needed installing between the house and an outbuilding. The end result was just as I described it, and it’s a solid structure. Very pleased with the result.

We can’t yap about seasoned carpenters without giving Fine Point Carpentry a nod. Dan, their main guy, has over 20 years in his resume.

He’s generally most praised when it comes to shelves, wardrobes, alcoves, cupboards, and fireplaces. You can ring him for any bespoke project, though, chiefly one that needs space maximisation.

In terms of pricing, Dan’s fees, including the one he provided us, line up with Leeds’ typical rates. We give him a bonus point for firing out the quote in less than a week.

Operating on weekends would do him good, though. Most folks I know prefer carpenters who run on Saturdays and Sundays.

And similar to most picks, he’s not rolling with a massive crew, so booking out is a possibility.

The good news is that he’s polite and tends to arrive and finish early. Thorough clean-ups are regularly provided, too, even if it’s not part of his package.

Pros

  • Over 20 years of experience
  • Wide range of specialities
  • Often wraps up ahead of time
  • Great at maximising space

Cons

  • One-man operation
  • Weekend closure

Very High Standard

Dan built a cupboard and shelves in an alcove in our living room and an inbuilt wardrobe unit in a challenging area in our loft conversion bedroom. Both have been built to a very high standard and Dan is easy to communicate with. We’re very happy with both, thank you Dan!

– Eleanor Ross, Google Review

Second to None

Dan did an incredible job installing our understairs shoe storage and bar—10 out of 10! His attention to detail was second to none, and he went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. He even got on well with our cat, who constantly tried to “help” by getting in the way! After we painted the cupboards, Dan kindly popped back to fit the handles, which was much appreciated. We had five quotes for this job, and Dan delivered twice the work for half the price. Highly recommend!

Made-to-measure carpentry is New Creation Joinery’s speciality. Everything is bespoke here: kitchens, shelves, staircases, and whatever it is you need.

Their biggest flex, though, has to be shopfitting. If you’re after a carpenter who can design and install a commercial space’s interior/exterior fittings, this one could wrap up your search.

Oh, and we said ‘a carpenter’ because Tony does most of the graft anyway. That’s a snag if he’s tied up on a job.

Good luck booking him instantly as well. There are no weekend hours, and you have to factor in the brand’s popularity.

Luckily, New Creation Joinery’s pricing won’t make you (or your wallet) wince. Some clients even say it’s ‘half the price’ of bigger crews.

To top it off, you can request quotes and ask for advice without paying a quid. We suggest sending a message first, then waiting for a call back; Tony’s workspace isn’t the quietest, honestly.

Pros

  • Wide range of specialities
  • Offers shopfitting services
  • Provides free quotes and advice
  • Affordable prices

Cons

  • One-man operation
  • Weekend closure

Super Friendly

Tony just installed two fitted wardrobes for us in a mid-century style. He’s been brilliant from start to finish, accommodating of our requirements and availability and producing an end result that far exceeded our expectations. Tony’s super friendly and great to work with – highly recommend.

– Jonathan Meager, Google Review

Easy and Pleasant Process

Tony is fantastic. From quote to delivery of services it has been such an easy and pleasant process. Quality of work is high level and communication is great. Now just working out what other projects we can work with him on! Highly recommend engaging with him for your next project.
