The best builders in Leeds nail every detail on time!
If you ask me, picking the right builder is the main difference between ‘home sweet home’ and an overpriced eyesore that creaks in the wind.
Take, for instance, an uncle of mine who hired a proper crew. That team nailed the details exactly as he wanted, kept costs in check, met the deadline, answered his calls, and provided a space that turned (and still turns) heads.
Getting green yet? Ah, don’t be, as we’ll pass the details on. In this review, we went straight to the most decorated and trusted building contractors in Leeds.
How much do builders charge in Leeds?
In Leeds, most builders typically charge an average hourly rate of £26 and a daily fee ranging from £200 to £400.
1. Leeds Building & Tiling Ltd

Founded in 2016, Leeds Building & Tiling has the years experience-focused clients often value. Their list of completed projects is also beyond 10, with both minor improvements and full-on renovations ticked.
Quality-wise, they’re considered solid by most property owners we linked up with. Bruno, the team leader, was even described as a perfectionist, not a bad trait for a builder.
Pricing is another positive. The rates are reasonable by Leeds’ standards, and we didn’t encounter a previous or current client who shared red flags like inconsistent quotes and surprise fees.
As hinted, their service range is also sound. You can book them for bathroom changes, weatherproofing, full-property renovations, and even outdoor or garden works.
Bruno has a contact list of local tradesmen, too. That’s convenient if you need plumbers or electricians.
Their schedule can get overly hectic, though, which can be worsened by the Sunday unavailability. Some of their competitors are open 24/7.
Punctual and Considerate
Bruno and team recently completed an internal garage conversion for us and we are really happy with the end result. Bruno was engaged with the project from the start, always making himself available to answer any questions and reliable when getting the work done. As also were the wider team who each completed elements of the build such as plumbing, plastering, electrics and decorating. All were punctual and considerate delivering work to a very high standard. I would absolutely recommend them all for your next project.

2. RG Building Services (Leeds) Ltd.

Being in business since 1984 says a lot about the family-operated RG Building Services.
Their other features also impressed us, starting with the service range. They handle (and have handled 10-plus) projects from the planning to the completion stage, resulting in a positive rep among clients who need structural work and fine finishing solutions.
In addition, they typically deliver on time and within the agreed budget. Repeat clients pointed to this being the primary reason they’ve booked RG more than once.
If there’s a potential drawback, however, it’s the risk of overbooking, as they’re not the largest builder on this list.
We would also love to see a reward system for regulars. Sure, their prices are proper if we’re talking Leeds, but a small discount or two wouldn’t hurt.
Their polite approach and post-service cleanup should stay, though. Our interviewees praised those bits.

Will Definitely Have Them Back
RG Building Services have transformed the downstairs of our house. They converted a living/dining room and small kitchen into a kitchen diner and separate living room, which we love. We also had a conservatory which wasn’t used due to it being too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Mark and the team insulated and plastered the roof from the inside and we now have an additional room which we use as a playroom. We are really pleased with the quality of their work. We will definitely have them back for future projects.

Huxton Building Services’ twenty years in the industry is nothing to sneeze at.
The same expression applies to their scope. See, they can provide insurance-related maintenance, building work, conversions, extensions, and landscaping to both domestic and landlord-managed properties, including those over 100 years old.
Most of their staff members have also received industry-ready training from City & Guilds, which is massive if you’re concerned about qualifications.
In terms of punctuality, they often come through. Projects are usually completed before the target deadline, and the builders themselves start early at around 8 am.
That said, you can’t ring them up or pop by the office on Saturdays. No promotions for their loyal clientele either.
Nevertheless, opting for Huxton isn’t shabby, thanks to the builder’s free, reliable quotes and competitive pricing.
Plus, they’re transparent with the progress, always calling clients and sending videos that explain what’s being done and why.
We Were Very Impressed
Honestly cannot recommend Huxtons enough! From day 1 we were reassured by Phil’s communication, updates and the quality of their work and felt that Phil was project managing brilliantly and that he was always in complete control from start to finish. Any hiccups (nothing to do with Huxtons) were quickly resolved and Phil was sympathetic with us being without a kitchen for 6 weeks (again not their fault!) and brought us spare bits of worktop so we could get by and did all he could to help us manage. Phil did all of the liaising with the electrician, plasterer etc and any stress was taken out of our hands. A big shout out to Dave too for also being amazing at what he does and for the singing! Overall, we were very impressed and would not hesitate to recommend Huxtons to anyone. There are not many companies who are as reliable and who care about the little details too and they always cleaned up before going home each day. It was a pleasure to have Phil and Dave in the house—in addition to being great at their trades they are also friendly. Thank you so much to you both and to the company.

4. AKB Loft Conversions

As the name implies, AKB is composed of pros who specialise in loft conversions, making them ideal for turning upper storeys into liveable spaces, such as bedrooms or offices.
Of course, that’s not their only offering. Dormer/hip-to-gable conversions, roof lifts, planning, and designing solutions are also in the cards, all fully guaranteed for that extra peace of mind.
The company, having been around since 2006, is a positive sign as well. What’s more, they have repeat customers, most of whom rate both the quality and customer service departments positively.
Similar to a few competitors, though, AKB shuts down on Saturdays.
They’re not the most suitable pick for complete renovations or constructions either, given their focus on loft-related services.
On the upside, the company offers rates within the city’s standards and is open to unusual designs.
The same in-house crew also handles the work, so no need to pay/contact subcontractors.
The Work is Indeed Excellent
I would absolutely recommend AKB for the quality of their work and their expertise. AKB carried out a loft conversion in our property; it had quite unusual features due to the nature of the house, but nothing was too much trouble for them! Andy was able to give us some excellent ideas to improve the space including a fantastic panoramic window, and the signature wall wardrobe which is admired by anyone who visits our house. Andy has a team of excellent workmen who are polite, professional and happy to help with any additional request you may have. We have been using our loft for a few months now, and I can report that the quality of the work is indeed excellent. Thanks Andy and AKB!

Friendly, Polite, and Experienced
Not one to ordinarily leave reviews but hope this is useful for anyone considering using Andy and his team at AKB. Simply put, I’d use them again and recommend them to anyone. We built a good relationship with Andy and he delivered everything promised. We took our time to make sure we knew exactly what we wanted so that there’d be no changes from our side. The job was set to be completed in 8 to 10 weeks and it was completed in week 10. Everyone who worked on the project were friendly, polite and experienced. The quality of their work is fantastic. We’ve lived in the space for 4 or 5 months now, through an incredibly cold, wet, windy and snowy winter and have no issues to report. Again, would recommend highly.

Since we’ve been big on quality and experience on this review, PJ Building Services deserves a nod. This builder is over 30 years old now and has notable credentials, including its Federation of Master Builders membership and NICEIC approval.
Their insurance-related service is an edge as well, especially since not every contractor here offers it.
Moreover, their usual range is well-rounded, with loft conversions, kitchen renovations, extensions, and bathroom installations on offer, all from design to finish. The rates for these aren’t outrageous for Leeds.
Our main issue is that they specialise in residential properties and projects, not commercial ones.
What’s more, PJ’s customer service, while generally touted as professional and clear, can be inconsistent in terms of callbacks.
The silver lining is that they start fast once all the paperwork is handled, usually within a week. They even regularly tidy up after finishing the job.
I Would HIGHLY Recommend Them
Work required: chimney support gallows bracket, fit flashing to window, and repair and install lintel. I called PJ Builders off chance due to a crazy quote from another building company. PJ Builders were installing a loft conversion around the corner from my house and I just called the number on the side of the van. Within 24 hours they had arranged Building Control and a team of builders to do the required work, and the work started less than a week later. We have to thank Paul and his team for their dedication with the support to the customer. I would HIGHLY recommend PJ Building Services for a professional finish and customer satisfaction.
