The Best Golf Coaches in Leeds Offering Invaluable Advice!

  • Certifications and Experience. We made sure that all golf coaches we recommend are certified members of the Professional Golfers’ Association in the UK because this means they completed a coaching qualification. It would also be nice if the golf coaches have several years of experience working in this field—at least five years—but we’re not too strict about this.
  • Coaching Style. Is the coach patient and understanding? And are they flexible enough to tailor lessons based on the student’s preferences and goals? The answers to these questions should be yes. Admittedly, our experience is limited, so we also asked other students about their opinions on certain golf coaches.
  • Tools and Equipment. We visited the golf course in which the classes are held and judged how well it is maintained. We also checked that the tools and equipment used are of high quality. If the coaches use technology like GPS tracking and golf simulators, then all the better.
  • Pricing. We want the rates to stay within the range of £35 and £50 per session. It would also be great if the coaches offered discounts and special promos if the student purchases a multi-session package.

Golf didn’t appeal to me as a youngster, but now that I’m an adult, I have to say that this sport actually looks pretty cool. So, when I learned that I could still learn how to play it, I decided to take my chance.

And wow, golfing is actually fun! Not only is it exciting to master its techniques, but it’s also sweet to enjoy a walk around a green course. So relaxing!

Looking for fun things to do in Leeds? Learn golf! Here are the best golf coaches in the city.

If you truly think that golf is going to be your next passion, then I recommend the Leeds Golf Club. After all, this is where a lot of golf enthusiasts go, and the best part is that the classes are pretty affordable, with rates starting at £25 per lesson!

The classes are jam-packed with information. You start with golf fundamentals and swing basics before getting into the mechanics of short and long games. There will also be a module on course management, which is interesting!

If it’s your child who’s interested in golfing, this club has a junior section. Most junior classes are done in group setups, but you can arrange a private session if you prefer.

I have to commend the space as well. It has an old-school feel about it, and the lawns are expansive. I actually don’t mind just coming here and enjoying a quick walk around the course.

That said, you can tell that the place could use a bit of an upgrade. The decor and furniture, in particular, need replacement, and they need to work on the Wi-Fi as well.

Pros

  • Affordable classes
  • Informative lessons
  • Junior classes available
  • Expansive lawns

Cons

  • Facilities could use an upgrade, especially the decor, furniture, and Wi-Fi

Customer Reviews

Brilliant clubhouse, helpful staff

Played a few nights at 5 o clock after work as me and a few lads work away and always take our clubs with us in the vans and I must say the course is in brilliant condition the first few holes are a bit boring but sleep on them and your cards wrecked before your eyes. The clubhouse is brilliant and the members extremely helpful. I special mention to Stuart behind the bar. Absolutely brilliant, what a bloke. Hopefully back with work around that part of the world and will definitely be back.”

Polite staff, amazing golf course

Amazing golf course for the money. Polite staff and a good course with plenty of variety and offers a good challenge for all levels.

SM Golf Coaching

What I like most about SM Golf Coaching is that Scott, the golf coach here, can train anyone regardless of experience level. Of course, beginners are the most common students, but he’s also worked with professionals who need refreshers!

He also uses innovative technology, so your lessons are beyond the golf course. In particular, he uses Trackman, which combines data, video, and overlay graphics to analyse your strokes and movements. As such, you’ll get clear feedback every time.

I also appreciate how Scott conducts the classes. He explains all the technical aspects in simple language, so I don’t have any trouble understanding. He’s encouraging as well, which I appreciate.

The one downside to this coach, though, is the expensive pricing. One-hour lessons cost £80, which is pretty steep, while the other packages can get as high as £500!

Fortunately, you can book an intro lesson if you’re not sure. And this introductory class is 50% off.

Pros

  • Caters to everyone regardless of experience level
  • Uses innovative technology in his lessons
  • Clear instruction, amazing feedback
  • 50% off intro lesson

Cons

  • Expensive

Gives clear advice

I’ve had a few lessons with Scott, mainly when I’m struggling! He always gives me some good thoughts to help me get back on track! I need to start seeing him more regular, before it goes wrong!

Breaks down complicated instructions into manageable parts

Used Scott over a few months to help improve my game and enjoy golf a bit more. Scott was great at breaking down what my body was doing and how this was influencing the club and ultimately the ball. He broke down what I had often found really complicated instructions into manageable parts and worked with me to improve my control. I’d played a little golf before but always became frustrated with my consistency. Rather than complete start again and rebuild my swing based on what ideal was Scott took the time to work with me and how I already played to make everything that bit better, more repeatable and gave some great advice on practice and improving further.”

Leeds Golf Centre

Leeds Golf Centre is a popular spot among seasoned golfers because it has various courses and ranges that are equally fun and challenging. But this place also attracts newbies—kids and adults—because of the Leeds Golf Academy.

The prices here are slightly on the higher end. One-hour sessions are either £55 or £65, but there are 30-minute sessions, which are cheaper. There are multi-hour packages as well—perfect if you truly want to invest in this sport and save money in the long run.

The instructors also use technology to aid your training. In addition to Trackman, they also have Toptracer, which tracks your balls, and Sam Putt and Balance Lab, which analyse your stance and balance.

All this helps your instructor in making a concrete lesson plan, and you also get to see where you need improvement. How convenient!

Famished after your classes? Head to their bar and grill and refill your energy!

That said, students complain about the lack of warning. One said that he drove all the way to this centre, only to discover that it’s closed and that his instructor changed the schedule. It would’ve been nice if he received a heads-up.

Pros

  • Various golf courses
  • Multi-hour packages and 30-minute sessions available
  • Uses technology
  • Concrete lesson plans, clear feedback
  • Additional facilities, like a bar and grill

Cons

  • Slightly expensive rates for one-hour sessions
  • Sometimes doesn’t let the student know about change of plans

Amazing course

A thoroughly pleasant course. Some really challenging holes that require you to think your way down the short stuff. Novice golfers shouldn’t be put off, as it is forgiving in many places. Not the longest (just under 6000 off the yellow tees. Great clubhouse with a small but adequate menu for the post-game feeding.

Friendly staff, fantastic golf club

Fantastic golf club. Very friendly and relaxed. The practice facilities are second to none. Won England golf cub of the year!

Mark Pinkett has been playing golf professionally since he was 17 years old, which is quite impressive if you ask me.

Students appreciate his teaching approach. While he does have some technical preferences, he acknowledges that every golfer is different. So, he focuses on the strengths of every student and uses them as a basis for the lesson plan.

He also has access to a few software applications like FlightScope, C Swing, and Tomi and Zenio Putting Software. All these aid him in studying a student’s form and swing, allowing him to provide a detailed evaluation and feedback.

The prices here aren’t too bad either; they’re usually around £35 and £55, and they already last for an hour! Sometimes, though, the prices can go higher because of demand and limited availability, so keep that in mind.

This coach prefers a private setup, but he’s open to group classes as well. This is perfect if you want to learn how to golf with your friends and loved ones.

Pros

  • Over 20 years of experience as a golfer
  • Custom-tailored teaching approach
  • Has access to software applications for better evaluation
  • Affordable rates
  • Offers both private and group setups

Cons

  • Prices can get slightly expensive due to demand and limited availability

The Alwoodley Pro Shop is mostly known for being, well, a shop selling all sorts of golf equipment. But did you know that the team here offers classes as well? Not only that, but the classes are pretty good, too!

Here, you have three instructors who can help you out, and they’re all PGA professionals. With their extensive experience, they know exactly the formula for a fantastic session: personalised instruction and supportive coaching.

They also use the Trackman technology, which helps provide more accurate analysis. This helps the instructors to come up with clear and concise feedback and an improvement plan that the student can follow easily.

Since this is a store as well, you can get a custom-fitted golf club and other tools. This is such a convenient feature, especially if you’re serious about this sport.

However, the classes here are expensive. A one-hour lesson costs between £65 and £80. Fortunately, you can have a 30-minute trial lesson, all for free! This is your opportunity to see if you like their teaching style or the sport in general.

Pros

  • PGA professionals for instructors
  • Personalised instruction and supportive coaching
  • Uses the Trackman technology for accurate analysis
  • Easy access to custom fittings for golf equipment
  • Free trial class

Cons

  • Expensive
