Without GET BAKED, there’d be no Bertha. Half dark-choc sponge, half dark-milk choc ganache, it’s a 24-layer-tall cake many claim is up there with the world’s most famous.
We had a few slices at the Headingley store, and they were proper lush without the sickly aftermath. The ganache was incredibly glossy at room temp, evened out by the dense sponge, best munched warm.
Topping it off was the lemon meringue pie. It was on the zestier end, with a nice buttery base and caramelised biscuit crust.

Who’d have thought that Eggfree Cake Inn churns out 100% egg-free delights for almost every diet and occasion? Wild, I know!
Cheekiness aside, the Bueno chocolate cake we gobbled was to die for. The berry toppings and light cream-style frosting were sweet touches, but it’s the moreish and moist sponge that secured their spot here.

Lambeth-style treats, as stunning as they are tasty, landed Soph’s Cakes on our radar. Scores of newlyweds and birthday celebrants reckon the same.
Sophie’s 15-year-long portfolio of bespoke cakes is another bit we considered. To us, it means she has the skills to match whatever design you have in mind, even if it’s a Disney-esque castle in white frosting!
Those quick bites didn’t go unnoticed either. We frequent her cafe for cupcakes, blondies, savouries, and cookies, most offered for less than three quid a slice and best paired with coffee.

Good heavens, it’s nearly impossible not to post a Starbake Patrisseries creation! Their pastry chefs truly have a knack for styling celebration cakes.
They taste every bit as good, too, especially the chocolate mousse piece. The silky mousse and whipped ganache layers are ultra-rich, and they’re made even richer by chocolate drip and brownies!

Jodie Bakes’ owner has been baking ever since she was a lass. These days, she’s doing the rounds for major spots like Harewood House, supplying them with bespoke and daily-made cakes.
I’m a big fan of the buttercream-free lemon cake, which features actual edible petals and lemons! Second in line is the cinnamon-spiced dessert carrot cake with raisins and nutmeg.
If you talk to the patrons, though, most will suggest the shop’s brownie and blondie trays. Each has 6 or 12 pieces and more than 10 flavours to choose from, such as Nutella and Lotus Biscoff.

The Crafted Cake House

No need to sell a kidney to score a custom number from The Crafted Cake House. They’re among Leeds’ most reasonably priced shops, all without sacrificing presentation and taste.
In terms of speciality, weddings and birthday cakes are their strongest suit. Loads especially rave about the shop’s ability to get inspos and measurements down to a T.
The flavour lineup is massive as well. Over 20 sponge and cream flavours are on the menu, so you can mix and match (care for some almond cake and jam?).

Sweet Valentine Bakery’s luxury cakes are worth paying for. Everything is handmade, and you can request almost any style—think traditional, over-the-top, or colourful.
The flavours are also your call, though fan-faves are around to make the choice easy. A mate who got his wedding cake here vouched for the vanilla bean ensemble, a moist vanilla sponge pudding jazzed by butter cream and berry jam.

If there were a ‘Cutest Cakes in Leeds Award,’ I’d give my vote to Miley Cakery. Their Japanese-style, bear- and cat-shaped cakes are kawaii!
Taste-wise, they don’t trail behind the eye candy factor, especially the strawberry cream cake. The best way to describe it is airy, fresh, and fruity.
The tiramisu is dead smooth as well. Both the boozy and non-boozy picks lean light and fluffy, same as most things here.

Away from Harehill’s clatter, Sultan Dessert House gives off a warm feel. The polite crew only adds to that energy.
It’s still the halal desserts you should be hyped for, though. If you need recos, go hard on the tiramisu and blueberry cheesecake; both are cloud-ish, not overly sweet, generously portioned, and fairly priced.

A bunch of brides and wedding planners swear by The Leeds Baker, and we see why. For one, they work closely with clients to create a cake or cupcakes bang-on for the event’s theme.
They’re not overpriced either. One of my workmates asked Liv (the owner) for 200 vegan cupcakes, and the quote she handed out was pretty reasonable for Leeds.
Above all, you can go wild on the flavour pairing. Liv will only offer tips on which ones go well together.

Since 2008, Cake Box has been clutch for those after fast desserts. I’m specifically talking about egg-free cakes you can personalise and grab within the hour.
They’re also ace if you’re not a fan of 5 to 10 options. The Click & Collect lineup alone has over 10 flavours, and the occasion cakes bring in more taste, shape, base, and colour variety.

Even if your concept isn’t ‘standard’ and a touch mad, The Little Cake Cottage will go for it. This award-winning shop is often praised for designing cakes exactly to a client’s specs, a perk only sweetened by the 3-week turnaround (from start to finish).
When it comes to choices, carrot, vanilla, Belgian chocolate, rich fruit, and coffee walnut are the mains, but don’t get stressed out if they’re not your cup of tea. There’s plenty to explore, like velvet, lemon, or any specific flavour you can think of, honestly.

In 2014, the founder and owner of Caroline’s Cakes took home The Great British Food Festival’s first prize. Anybody who’s sampled her cafe-style and ‘free from’ cakes knows that award was well-earned.
What’s cool is that her other goodies are also acclaimed, mainly the cupcakes, traybakes, and cookies. Each can be flavoured to match your mood and craving, though chocolate and velvet are my go-to (this applies to the cakes as well).
